Is windows 10 REALLY worth the pain for DX12?

I really don't want to down...upgrade to windows 10 because all the app bullshit. And ofc we won't mention the spying. but you know... DX12. I'm hoping someone makes some hack so it works for 7 like was done a while ago making dx10 work for XP

I dont think so considering I didnt heard any AAA games with DX12 support is already out.

it's not a pain. win10 is easily customizable to look like win7 again. 

mine looks nearly the exact same. 

 

plus win10 takes up less of my precious SSD space than win7 did. 

 

 

you can turn off all of the "spy" features. and you don't have to use "apps" at all. plus everything from win7 works with win10. 

i was hesitant to go from winXP to 7, but when i did i was glad. i went to win10 day1, no regrets. 

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

There really is no reason why you are complaining. If you let Windows set up your own options on how it should look, then you have no right to complain since you didn't bother looking into the options and setting them up to how you want it to look... Like when people complain about the metro apps screen on Windows 8.1, yet it is configurable to turn that thing off....

 

Point: If you don't set up your own options, don't expect it to be how you want it to be.

Spying - can be turned off, but anyone can spy on you no matter the OS especially if they're good at spying   :ph34r:

Gaming - DX12 will be nice to have and it's preparation for the future games

 

There are still some drivers and updates missing, but that will change in time

 

Then there's Cortana

 

It's overall a smooth and fluid OS that's responsive and feels natural

W10 is a really nice OS so far, its gorgeous looking, I love the new snap features and multitasking view, multi desktop stuff

 

Happy I upgraded and looking forward to increased performance too, in fact it already boots up and seems a bit more responsive

I like windows 10. It has a few weird glitches in it, but overall its faster and nicer to use than 8.1 was.

Considering DX12 doesn't exist yet. No, it's not worth it to upgrade JUST for DX12.

Yes upgrade to windows 10. No there is no spying of whatever. No you will not be able to use DX12 on anything but. But if DX12 is the main selling point for you, you might be dissapointed as most if all games out currently do not support it so you will so no differences.

I really don't want to down...upgrade to windows 10 because all the app bullshit. And ofc we won't mention the spying. but you know... DX12. I'm hoping someone makes some hack so it works for 7 like was done a while ago making dx10 work for XP

The only pain I've personally encountered is due to Creative once again doing a terrible job of supporting their sound card products on a new OS release—surprise, surprise. I'm left using an "unofficial" driver for basic functionality that some brilliant person on their forum managed to put together.

 

Windows 10 does have a ton of data collection, but it's also got a Privacy settings menu with 13 pages of things to turn off if you so choose. Obviously we're all going to wonder how much data collection is being done that isn't exposed in the settings menu, but each person's conclusion on the matter is going to come down to our personal levels of paranoia. Once set up the way I like, I find the Windows 10 UI to be really enjoyable to use.

 

DirectX 12 is, as far as I know, worthless until a game actually developed for DirectX 12 is available to play. So to answer the question; yes, it's worth "the pain (?)," and not for DirectX 12.

W10 is a really nice OS so far, its gorgeous looking, I love the new snap features and multitasking view, multi desktop stuff

Agree on that, but I think Apple handles multiple desktops workflow better at the moment.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.
