Tech Confession Time!

rustikles

Lol the 5k iMac still seems suited for what I need.

Sure it doesn't have specs that are overkill but it does what it's meant for.

apple compromizes the wrong things and still expensive out the ass

I'll start:  I really think that Ducky keyboards are pretty ugly.  :(

Preach it.

I bought a Surface Pro 3 instead of getting 2 GTX 980s. And I actually like Mac OSX & Windows Phone

i forgot to hook up the CPU power

Guilty

Once I bought the wrong form factor power supply... Yeah I felt like an idiot.

I bought a M-ATX case for my ATX Motherboard

NCASE M1 i5-9600k  GTX 1080 FE Z370N-WIFI SF600 NH-U9S LPX 32GB 960EVO

I'm a self-identifying Corsair Nvidia Fanboy; Get over it.

I killed my motherboard by plugging the cpu fan into the wrong plug and caused it to spark and smoke :^( (It has been replaced since)

I bought not one, but TWO Nvidia GT 610's for a couple storage servers. (The chipsets are X58, so there's no onboard video). They were cheap, don't gobble up a ton of power, and I'm always remoting into them so it's not like they need a ton of uumph in the graphics department.

The only thing that could have made the iMac 5k better is maybe try to squeeze in a GTX 980M but I suspect the TDP is too high for what the iMac is currently designed for. Unless their Thunderbolt display gets like a 4k display and is made to be more like an iMac then I guess I'd reconsider building an all in one desk (Where the computer is inside the desk). I think that one thing about PCs I don't like is that they're messy and take up more space than necessary but at the same time on paper and in the real world they often fair better than a Mac just because they have more breathing room in terms of having specs. I mean I said this on another thread but if I saw the need to build a PC too then I would. But it wouldn't be anything fancy since it would be AMD based and running Elementary or Ubuntu or Arch with either Cinnamon or Gnome.

dude the imac 5k is a ridiculous price for the base even and its main selling point is the form factor/"applesheen" but i would rather invest in ddr4 and a haswell to futureproof a little

I don't really like Windows and I'm not sure things like Sony Vegas would run in Wine on linux that well. And the only other option for 5k is the Dell monitor which I doubt a single or dual sli GTX 980 can run.

Ehhhhhhh. Maybe.

The Define R4 Titanium isn't that bad looking but again it's like all PCs it takes up too much space.

I'd still have the system be AMD based.

I used the stock cooler for awhile

lost mounting hardware to a few cpu coolers

have never applied a screen protector without air bubbles (have used phantom glass, gf $40, damn dog hair)

my current setup is ridiculously ghetto

had to use microsoft tech support because I couldn't find microsoft word after installing office 365
