The Radeon R9 Fury non-X based on Fiji PRO graphics processor sports 3584 Stream Processors, 224 Texture Mapping Units and 64 Raster Operating Units. In comparison to Radeon R9 Fury X, R9 Fury has 8 Compute Units disabled. For some reason TDP did not change, even despite downclocking engine clock to 1000 MHz (by 50 MHz).

Radeon R9 Fury is the first graphics card equipped with HBM memory to launch in custom variants. So far only two AIBs have shown their cards, which is ASUS and Sapphire. Both cards are equipped with beefy triple-fan coolers, the heat sink on Sapphire card is just enormous.

ASUS STRIX R9 Fury was used as ‘reference’ card in marketing materials, they even changed ASUS stickers to AMD. Actually, if this was indeed the reference card, I wouldn’t complain, quite a step from Volcanic Islands.

While Sapphire R9 Fury TRI-X features reference PCB, STRIX is actually is the first Fiji card equipped with custom-made PCB. Both cards feature two 8-pin power connectors.

AMD Radeon R9 Fury launches tomorrow at 8AM ET.

Since it releases tomorrow in the morning we should expect to see some reviews quite quickly. I'm expecting it to be faster than the 980 and overall maybe 5-10% slower than the Fury X. Which for $550 is pretty nice. I also have a feeling that unlocked voltage will come either at launch or soon after because these custom cards from 3rd parties are designed for overclocking and I cannot imagine AMD will keep the voltage locked too much longer. If this ends up being true, we can have one hellauva card for $550 here.

i dont get why everyone thinks like that outside in EU te furyx is around 75$ cheaper which makes it a good deal if you ask me esspecailly considering it comes with a AIO

well the fury X was slightly slower than the 980ti, and this card will be 10% slower than that, so its getting pretty close to 980 performance at the same price...

The Fury X was definitely a let down, but I think this card is going to be much more promising. The Fury X is a let down for two reasons, 1) It isn't faster than a 980 Ti 2) It costs the same as a 980 Ti. Here the Fury costs practically as much as a 980 but will be a decent amount faster.

Doubt it, the 390X is already as fast as a 980. The Fury will be faster than that.

It is not releasing tomorrow. Review embargo is tomorrow and the card hits store shelves on the 14th. This was revealed by Sapphire Ed on his live stream

No it really isn't as fast as the 980. It's not even close when overclocking. Hell check out Jayztwocents review and you can see on pure overclocks the 980 actually trades blows with the furyx at low resolutions (mainly cause the furyx is like the worst overclocker ever.)

I mean sure "stock" 390x can kinda almost be as strong as a 980. But no way after overclocking the base fury even beats the 980.

Look at it this way, the 390X already matches a 980. So the Fury with 768 more stream processors than a 390X will have to obviously be faster than a 390X.

except it really doesn't except at 4k where the low amount of gddr5 hurts the 980.

What are you talking about?

it goes toe to toe with the 980ti at 4k, beating it roughly 50% of the time. (11/22 games tested, it beat the 980ti)

and even beating the freaking 1,000 dollar, 12gb vram monster titan x 7/22 times. That's fucking phenomenal considering that the 290X couldn't keep up with the 780ti last get what so ever. That's fucking mind blowing. At 4k its an absolutely viable option, at 1080p, it's not. But if you're buying a 980ti or titan x for 1080p, then you're just straight retarded.

Sigh... At stock.... Unless you honestly want to buy a 400-500 dollar gpu and not overclock it?

Also note that there is no reference 390x and that is compared to reference 980...

Yes but that's only taking into account if you are getting a 980 that can do 1500MHz or more and you are getting a 390X that clocks under 1200MHz.

As shown by the JayZTwoCents video where he compares the 390 (non-X) to a 970. When the 970 is at 1442MHz and the 390 is at 1200MHz it outpaces the 970. The same will hold true with a 980 vs a 390X.

It is a bit of a concern for VR though, where the top-tier cards do make sense (an R9 290 or GTX 970 is the minimum spec for Oculus Rift). The Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are only 25% higher res than 1080p (30% less than 1440p), but require consistently high framerates - no drops below 90 FPS / above 11ms.

AMD has time to dig out some extra performance with their drivers though, so let's see how it looks once VR arrives.

I don't think you are retarded for buying a fast GPU for just 1080p and here is why..... simple really.

Everything maxed out without having any low frame rates. It's not about uber fast frames for me....it's about not wanting low frame rates.

Of course 1440p is better but not everyone can afford both and I'd rather save up for a monster GPU than get a new monitor.

But really...there is benefits of having a really good GPU no matter what. Unless it's bottlenecked by a CPU or something you'll see benefits no matter what.

That is an insane assumption considering at stock speeds the 390 noticeably outperforms the 970 where the 390x in most cases merely matches (OFC this isn't true at 4k, but that's the wonders of 8 gb).

Most people also don't game at 1440p or 4k, and the 980 hands down wins at 1080p. Point?

I can't find any OC vs OC reviews where a 390X is at 1200MHz or more, and every single review where they do OC for OC the 390X is under 1200MHz and the 980 is over 1500MHz. So not really that bad of an assumption based on the fact that they are both similar cards minus some changes to Cuda Cores or Stream Processors. Don't see how that is insane at all.

980 is 10-12% faster than a 970.

390X is 6-8% faster than a 390.

Most people at 1440p or 4K probably don't overclock their GPUs either. You need to compare what people are actually going to experience in practice.
