Hey guys is there any way we can IP Ban the spam bots on the forum? I have my settings so I get status updates from the General Discussion forum and they get emailed to me and I would like for my email to not get blown up from the spam bots.. Thanks..

I have a feeling it's going to be difficult to do this because you'd be blocking random people if the attackers had dynamic IPs...

My dad works for TWC so if I ever need an IP change I just ask him

I heard IP Banning is possible from websites, but those spammers are probably using a lot of different IPs or they can change their IP easily.

I would just unsubscribe from General either way :P

They do IP ban the bots
the bots change URL every time though so its not possible to stop them forever

Well when i pm slick. I just add a bunch of mods. He did pm me when he got back from outside of the country.

They all get ton of PMs everyday. Yours need to be very special to get reply.

 

As for banning IPs. Besides what @Glenwing said, there's the thing with dynamic IPs. If you ban every IP used by spam bot, someday complains start to flow from people blocked without reason.

The IPBoard spambots probably use a VPN with a large pool of IPs to use... so it isn't really an effective solution.

The one downside of IPv6, so many IP addresses for bots and jerks to choose from.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

Talk to the mods... And even if they could I'm sure it'd be pretty easy to get around that with a proxy.

MAC IP ban is quite a good option
