Brainless906

749? Nvidia, y u do this :(

But that's only recommended pricing, it will probably be 800+

Alternate has it to pre-order for €799.

$499 for a GTX 980 still feels like highway robbery. 50% more expensive than a GTX 970 that is 15% less powerful on average at stock clocks at 1600p while the 980 Ti is 25% more powerful than the GTX 980 at 1440p at a 30% higher price. I'm with Linus that the only enthusiast Nvidia GPUs that make much sense for most gamers are the 970 and 980 Ti.

It's because Nvidia has a complete monopoly on the higher end right now so they dictate the prices until AMD release their new series.

The 980/980Ti/Titan X have no competition as the 970 is enough to compete against AMD's entire lineup.

I don't think I'd really consider a 980 at anything more than $429. There it would be 30% more expensive for that 13% gain over the 970, but you'd also be getting the better memory subsystem that could pay dividends later on.

I asked around om my local forum is there is a simple reason:

TAX

My country(NL) has a 21% sales tax on products, while in the US there are even states with 0% tax and California being the highest with 7.5% tax.

Couple that with the lowering euro value and you have the problem.

750/1.21(tax) x 1.11(rate) = 690 dollars

The remaining 40 dollars is probably import tax.

The MSRP for Denmark is 5999 DKK, which translates to 898 USD. Subtract our 25% VAT, and the price you can actually compare with is 710 USD. Not that much worse than the US MSRP of 649 USD, but still disappointing of course. 4999 was too much to ask, but 5499 would have been fair.

Not sure about other European (Or EU) countries, but that article simply isn't true for the UK.

There are already price drops on the GTX 980, around £70 in some cases (Which is over $100) and their math on the 980Ti is just.. wrong.

That moment you see your country is listed and the next you wish it weren't. 6199 HKN? That's almost $1000. My whole pc with monitor costed 7000 HKN.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Cheapest GTX 980s in Denmark are about 4200 DKK, which is $629. Subtract VAT (25%) and the raw price is $503. Compared to the US price of $499.

So yeah, the situation isn't quite as bad as they're claiming. But VAT does hurt.

VAT hurts and some US states don't collect sales tax either, so it can compound the "UK/EU/Europe pays more" mentality. Once you start adding tax however, some areas will pay similar amounts.

Rarely are US prices advertised including tax as well, another thing to keep in mind for those saying the EU gets hosed.

Yeah the price difference isn't that huge when you consider that most countries in Europe charge 20%-25% VAT (sales tax) and are forced by law to include this in their list price. Prices listed in the US usually don't show sales tax which will still apply when you purchase, the amount changes depending on which state you live in. I'll admit that sales tax in the US is usually much lower than in Europe, but Nvidia has little to do with that. Deduct VAT from the list price and the difference isn't that much:

Using the 980ti as an example: In the US the list price is $649 compared to €739 in EU, but deduct 20% VAT you'll end up at a base price of €616 or $688 (US). That's only a $39 difference...

I also think it's gonna be more than that here because we have crappy resellers

I'm so pissed right now, was gonna get myself a 980Ti too but the price's are ridiculous.

The 780Ti was ~650€ when it launched, and now they want me to pay >750€ (reference model! custom coolers are around 800-900) and they don't even drop the 980 price?

I ask this in all honesty Nvidia: are you retarded?

Looks like AMD is the way to go this time.

AND IF YOU'RE GOING TO INCLUDE NORWAY THEN SAY "EUROPE" NOT "EU" YOU PRICKS, NVIDIA.

(Norway is NOT a member of EU and never will be)

August? Are you serious? Holy crap, epic fail AMD if it goes down like that.
