Steam Paid mods, Gaben has betrayled us all.

Brainless906

Is this the place i can come to grossly over react about steams new paid mod service?

Steam is sh*t

Every game valve has ever made is sh*t

Gaben is now the devil

more like stEAm amiriteboys?

Lets make our own launcher and pretend we'll actually stop using steam

Skyrim is somehow a worst game now, lets go give it negative feedback in the store

Lets repeatedly keep chanting "donations button" without thinking about any of the legalities attached to it like a bunch of circle jerking morons

Seriously though..as much as i have certain issues with the whole thing and for the most part i dont let the large majority of idiots over on reddit anger me this issue has been blow way the absolute f*ck out of proportion. Even TB was like...yo...there's some good and bad sides but settle the f*ck down. He phrased it slightly differently but basically the gist of it.

Lol, I didnt want to actually discuss the idea of paid mods but more so the gross over-reaction by the community.

I do see the irony as well. Also yes, both TB and Jim are some of the most sane people out there these days.

But i'm not so much complaining about the idea of paid mobs but more so the lynch mob gross overreaction by the community.

What I think on the subject.

It has more cons than pros , thats the issue.

Pros:
- It might incentive more quality mods , which is not happening so far.
cons:
-Divided the community
-Is full of copyright issues
-Its very grey morally because mods are experimental and nature and usually depend on other mods , so making mods paid is a very complex situation. If mod A depends on mod B and mod A is paid does mod A need to pay revenue to mod B , do all mods need to pay something to SKSE?
-Will fill the store with trolls looking for a quick buck , its happening already.
-Its impossible to police and regulate and this whole self regulating BS from valve didnt work with greenlight.
-Putting the mods inside a pay wall will make users with 100-150 mods pay more on the mods than the game .
- The cut that valve and bethesda have set up for the modder that does the most work isnt enought to support them , even the apple store pays 70% to the content creator.
-Steam does have the infrastructure or customer support to handle this not even remotely.
-Mods take effort but putting them behind a pay wall instead of just having a donate button excludes part of the community and honestly it has enraged everyone toward the modders and steam producing bad will and general lack of interest.
-People can just rip mods from nexus and charge for them .
-Free mods now have ads which is retarded.

So while the idea is nice , the execution and the underlying issues make it a nightmare for both valve and the consumer.

As a guy who doesn't use mods much

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I agree fully. But one more pro to add would be the promotion of devs to add mod support.

Wishing leads to ambition and ambition leads to motivation and motivation leads to me building an illegal rocket ship in my backyard.

I think there's 2 major factors at work here

1) It was near the weekend, there was fucking nothing happening in PC gaming anyway so people gotta comment on something

2) It's the internet, people overreact that's what they do: look for weird pornography and overreact about meaningless shit.

Yeah hold on, let me just start caring for everything and suffer a mental breakdown from too much stress. These are just games, in the end even if you lose them altogether (which is a bad scenario and I don't want it to happen in any way) it's still no the end of the world.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

you must find the right balance. Plus if you don't care, why posting in the first place?

I still find the situation quite amusing to be honest.
