so this one time I was hanging out with my friend who is the manager at a tech shop by where I live and a girl comes in and buys a 2tb hard drive. we let her know that we install hard drives for $1 (the cost of the sata cable we use) and she says "just because I am a woman does not mean I cant work on computers" and leaves in a huff. two days later she comes back in saying that the HDD is not working so we take the computer in to look at it, we open it and the HDD is nowhere to be seen, so we ask her where it is. and it turns out that she scanned it and put the scanned image on her desktop to install the drive. and to top that off she threw away the drive she paid almost $200 for and she wanted us to give her a new one.

EDIT: feel free to quote this comment, I like seeing peoples reactions even though the comment is 2+ years old.

The worst experiences aren't with "non-techies" but rather people who have a small amount of knowledge about computers and try to apply that to every situation. One of the battles I have at the moment is working with a SAN with plenty of space but very limited backup space so we have to be really careful with our quotas.

Was walking through a corridor after puling down a projector (so, yes - projector etc in hand and in a visible rush) got stopped and was asked "Can I have more hard-drive space? (he already had 20GB, after clearing out his files that turned into 5gb used....)", then proceeding to have a 15 minute conversation about how it isn't just as easy as installing another hard-drive....

The guy was there saying "but I could buy the hard-drive if we can't afford it?" -- no mate, that's just not how it works.

i can agree with this, i know a guy i used to play overwatch with would always tell people to buy the most expensive parts on the market, he would say things like "oh if you buy the r5 1600 you need to buy this x370 board cause the b350 boards are not designed to work with the 1600" and that his 1070 would get 1000fps in overwatch

My favorite encounters like this were in Iraq. Battalion commander calls me and tells me the cup holder on his computer isn't working. I'm like, what? So I pop in his office and ask him to show me what the problem is. This man reaches down to his tower, and pushes the eject button for the CD drive and tells me again "see the cup holder doesn't come out." replaced it, explained to the man who has more degrees than I had years in the army at the time what a CD drive is, and when I dismantled the old drive, it was an amazing mass of coffee mud inside.

Another tour in Iraq, a company commander called me to fix his laptop in secret because he didn't want a statement of charges. This man spilled a bowl of ramen noodles on the laptop and in his infinite wisdom, dumped rice all over his laptop to soak up the soup. Not dry rice mind you, fried rice.

I have to use an iPhone 4S right now, due to my 5X being hit by the (infamous) bootloop. RIP Nexus 5X, December 2015 - August 2017

If you're willing to keep your phone cool enough to unlock your bootloader (Easy on stock nexus, its the OEM Unblocking), and install twrp, you can flash a fix that makes your phone usable again.

Of course, if you haven't installed twrp before, you will lose your data that was on your device before hand (Though there are ways around this but that is another matter)

for me, 1080p is good enough

at 1ft away on a 14" display on a laptop, i can just barely peck out the pixels.

then again at 14" display on another laptop that is 1280 x 800 i can just barely peck out the pixels too.

14" at 4K is just as bad as 34" at 1080P. Maximum resolution should match with the physical screen size of the monitor.
