How many of you guys have servers and what is their use?

ginner159

So was wondering if you guys have servers and if so what do you use them for? I have 2 vps 1 currently just for teamspeak and one laying dormant (might see if i can fold on it)

Also if its a NAS pre-bought or custom build which do you prefer?

Man id love your Leviathan pc!

When it finally comes out of it's custom enclosure I'll post one. As it stands its extremely heavy, and linked up to a ton of recording equipment.

The projects never end in my line of work.

2 servers running 24/7 in our house. 1 Freenas server for files/movies/music and 1 Apache for our websites.

EDIT: Ah, yes. Add a Raspberry Pi to that for our mailserver :)

Reclaimed Dell for media storage and backups. As of now it is still on a trial run if we would use it or not so, only 1TB external drive and an old 60GB SSD. Its also doubled as a game stream now so I'm looking to upgrade it here soon, case and storage, the i5 takes game stream like a champ.

These are not in use but still functional so I can use them incase there is a big problem with the primary ESXi system.

Feel free to ask me anything about these systems and what i do with them.

I don't have an official server but just an old pc turned into a server that i only use for teamspeak and a minecraft server. I have a prebuild nas but i think i would have preferred to have a better server and have that do what i need since the nas i have is a bit weak on power and was pretty pricey.

Main rig: i7 4790k, Cooler H55, EVGA GTX 980, Corsair Obsidian 250D, ASRock H97M-ITX/ac, G.Skill 8GB, 500GB 840 EVO, 1TB WD Black

Server:  HP DL380 G5 8x 300GB 10k Sata drives, 2x e5460 32GB Ram

NAS: Synology DS213 with 2 2TB WD Red Drives

I have my server set up in a colo with a 500mb up/down connection that I have ESXI running with windows server 2012, pfsense, centos for file storage and other services. The windows host is running plex and a few minecraft servers and ldap for login on my other hosts. All of this running on a 2950 with a 4gig port channel going to my 3845 then to the internet. Pay no attention the the 100/100 connection as that has been recently upgraded, as I upgraded my router to the 3845 and it currently handles my ipsec connections.

Not much of a server, but I've got a 10 year old or so desktop running as a host for a vanilla minecraft server + the web panel for the server.

It does a decent job, though I'd like to build a much better server to replace it eventually.

@looney  :o  i can only dream for a setup like that! your internet connection must be balling.

Not really, At the moment I cant get more then 100/100 on my FTTH so I will soon get my old copper line back up as a second line, that will be 200/20.

so total will then be 300/120.
