God the amount not people I've had to explain to about why straight pride makes no sense is genuinely depressing.

It's to show that you're proud of who you are and aren't afraid of the oppressors (religion, police, government and so on). It's a stance against discrimination.

Straight people aren't faced with discrimination, so straight pride isn't needed.

So then it doesn't make sense in the US, Canada, or most of Europe either.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

If you think this then you're a fool. We have the legal right to marry in all 50 states but there's still discriminatory laws and policies in place. People still don't see it as "normal". There's still a ways to go for the equality movement in the US, Canada and most of Europe.

You're not even remotely oppressed. We're on the same playing field in the eyes of government, business, etc.

The only thing people like you are doing now is trying to make things worse for everyone else.

For starters, I don’t think in any history book straight people are shamed, fired from jobs or worse, thrown off of a building because they’re straight. If there’s one, let me know.

There is more that meets the eye
I see the soul that is inside

1. why do you have to be discriminated against to be proud of who you are?
2. straight people absolutely face discrimination. Do you think only straight people discriminate and all lgbt are angels?

The better question is why base pride on a singular trait to begin with.

Explain the "religious freedom" laws, then? Which, keep in mind are still happening as recent as a year ago. Further, the Trump administration is trying to write trans people out of existence... who's to say that they'll stop there?

Only 19 states out of 50 + DC explicitly prohibit discrimination against LGBT people (New Hampshire, Wisconsin and Utah don't offer full protections) and even then if we become complacent then homophobes and transphobes will try to take what rights we have away from us. I mean, last year my state held a referendum on trans protections. It lost 71-29%, but if you think that we're "not oppressed" or "not in danger" or "on the same playing field" then you're a fool.

  1. It's to show that you aren't afraid
  2. Are straight people publicly shamed for their sexuality? Fired from their jobs for their sexuality? Threatened with death for their sexuality? Also, as wkdpaul said, this thread is specifically monitored by the staff because of discrimination.

How am I being disingenuous?

I genuinely don't understand how someone can feel that being proud of one sexuality is ok but being proud of a different sexuality isn't. Sounds like discrimination to me.

There's nothing inherently wrong with being straight, you're allowed to be (you don't have a choice anyway), we're just challenging the notion that non-hetero sexualities are somehow "worse" or "unnatural".

Religious freedom is a fundemental right and you have no right to the work or approval of others. These laws protect the rights of others, they don't violate any rights of yours.

I was replying to the idea that you should be proud to be lgbt, but not proud to be straight.

I'm not specifically but how long until Massachusetts holds a referendum on my right to be treated like a human and not be discriminated against at work, housing or public accommodations?

Because being straight is the "norm". There's no reason to have "straight pride" when it's considered "normal".

That source is excessively biased, but you don't and didn't have a right to any of those things. Those laws violated the rights of others, them being removed does not undermine your rights.

Bro, I struggled with my sexuality until I was almost done with college because people around where I live still don't see it as "normal" and I wanted to fit in. I think that I and, well, you as well have the right to live your life comfortably and free from hatred just because we don't identify as straight.

Don't force your ideals and sexuality unto others and demand that they accept you.

You have no right to demand, or even expect, other people to accept you.

I also don't care about your story, because it is unverified and it's only from your perspective.

That isn't how it works. Blacks didn't earn their rights by just hoping people would accept them. They had an entire movement, partially peaceful, partially rioting. We can't just expect people to make progress by being complacent.

After most of our dicussions, there is no reason to believe that.

You're not deprived of any rights. The LGBT "movement" isn't even remotely comparable to the Black rights movements, as they were actually being oppressed and deprived of rights.

You act like all of your failings are the result of a system stacked against you, instead of them being the direct consequences of your actions or lack there of.

Like how your friends got good jobs after college and you didn't. You admitted that they branched out and networked in circles that had links to potential employers, and you didn't. But somehow, that's not your fault, the system is rigged against you.

That wasn't what I was implying? I've been trying to do the same but it hasn't landed me even an entry-level job yet. I'd rather not talk about that right now tho, I'm stressed as hell because of it.

Then either the market is oversaturated and you're not any better than any other candidate, or you're not qualified.

That was the exact example you gave me as to why the system is rigged in the US.
