I personally haven't had any family members with Alzheimer's, but my grandpa has Parkinson's, another degenerative disease. His memory's becoming increasingly flaky, to the point where he can't remember something he said an hour ago (thankfully he still has his WWII memories!), he's wheelchair-bound as he can no longer support his own weight and it's either gonna be that or old age that eventually gets him.

 

I've already expressed this several times, but I'm not ready to lose him. I've had all my life to prepare for this and... I'm just...

I guess two parts of it involves the luck of good genetics and body chemistry.

Or that on average we live longer in first-world countries so we are more likely to be affected.

I have heard that regular brain exercises help prevent Alzheimer's.

I wonder if watching too much tv would be a factor?  After all, your brain is more active during sleep then watching tv.

It's mostly genetics that play a role. I'm not ruling out diet, but those without a family history tend to not show signs.

There's no real evidence to suggest it really helps all that much. Besides, TV is a very generalised thing and can include fun things like grand designs and documentaries.

I can't read minds, but if I were to guess, I would say that the way you act bothered them, and thus they tried to guilt trip you into behaving differently.

Ya know, if we flip that math around then only 29% or so of Australian's voted 'No'.  So, maaaaaaybe not the best angle to take.  I'm sure someone will argue that a 'silent majority' would have surely voted no it's just that they were afraid to fill out a form that came to their homes by mail, that they would then be mailed away, and no one would see how you voted unless you told them.
