And they're still calling it a card for professionals.  Moreover, $1K .

 

CMON AMD this is your chance to wreck nvidia.

GCN has 1/2 the double precision of single precision. R9 390X is suppose to be around 8.6 TFLOPS single precision so around 4.3 TFLOPS double precision.

 

Kaveri has higher double precision (0.368 TFLOPS) than the TITAN X.  :lol:

That's why AMD can beat nvidia with workstation class GPUs.

Nvidia won't have anything better than GK110 in DP until Pascal. AMD can take some market share from both consumers and professionals this time and I hope so, since it has lost too much last year.

now that amd knows the price of the titan x .... they can price the 390x around the rumored 700+ dollars and they should be golden...

Apparently it overclocks as well as the rest of the Maxwell line up. This card @ 1500MHz would be a beast for 4k gaming imo.

With its less than stellar double precision capabilities, I would have to say that this kind of is a gaming card. Just a spendy one.

I doubt it with that very small memory bus it has. Sure, texture and colour delta compression helps a lot, but we've seen it become somewhat of a bottleneck on the 980 already. As games get higher quality textures and more unique textures on the screen at any given time, I think these Nvidia cards are simply too gimped for high resolutions.

 

It will still do well I'm sure, but it could probably do even better with a proper memory bandwidth. Either way, I look forward to the reviews :)

It's not for gamers.

Gimped FP64 performance, gimped double precision.  It's a gaming card, it will still compute decently, but theres a reason Teslas are still going to use Big Kepler until Pascal.
