Australia is getting left behind... Again...

Australia is seeming more and more like the black sheep of the world. 

 

The latest android update, 5.1 (Lollipop) has been rolling out across the globe to most big name brand smartphones. Australia, being the 3rd world country it is, still haven't gained access to the basic 5.0.1 Version of the software, other than the Nexus Device. Most phones being with any carrier (Be it Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, BoostMobile) are not even rumoured to be getting anything above 4.4.3 any time soon. Even Samsung's flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5 has been hit with the all famous 'Australian Blockade', denying any chance of a rollout across the country in the coming weeks. How is it, that Apple with their IOS updates are worldwide basically instantly? How is it that certain things roll out across Australia the same time as it rolls out across the rest of the world, but other things are completely set back? 

 

Next topic: Why Australia's 'NBN' Network is scum. Screw this country, seriously.

The heat is nice. But my overclocking isn't too happy about it.

On topic: Fuck our country man. I should be getting NBN by the end of this year, there's tonnes of work going on around my area, but still. Telstra should've been doing this years ago. Why is it that other countries with many magnitudes more people have cheap, reliable 100/100 (or higher) connections and we're still stuck on less than an 8/1 connection.

We've had years, we aren't a poor country, we aren't a country in debt, we're doing quite well down here in our little corner of the Earth, but we still can't manage to even THINK about maybe upgrading VITAL infrastructure. Fuck military funding, we'd be wiped in seconds anyway if we were attacked, we need the infrastructure. Our roads suck, our education system is failing more and more every year (finished high school last year, thank Jeyzus), our hospitals are under-funded, yet we have the money to buy like fifty $1 billion jets from the US of A.

And there's Telstra with it's 4.3 billion AUD worth of net income last year. Doing nothing. Almost as bad as the American ISPs.

you know nothing is stopping you from downloading the firmware and installing it right? 

 

just because your phone doesn't come with it doesn't mean you can't install it.

 

(also the "clean" version of the firmware/ROM is 100x better than the one that comes with your phone. it doesn't have all the crap services installed, crap apps, all that "bloatware". way less bugs too)

On a more serious note, some guys on a tech forum probably aren't going to be able to do much change anything. That and people in Australia seem to keep voting in this "Tony Abbott" guy who isn't doing anything beneficial, or at least from what I can tell.

Australia is awesome, where else do supermarkets have NFC payment accounts, we have world leading break through's in medical research,  our education system is amongst some of the best.  Standard of living is higher than most countries, Melbourne has been voted the most livable city too many times it's gone to our heads.

 

And one other thing, how long have you been following politics to start blaming everything on abbot?  I've been following it for over 20years and if you think he is bad you know nothing.

Just root it/flash your own custom 5.1 ROM. Rooting the S5 and flashing ROMs is very easy, go to the S5 subforum on XDA developers for the guides. I'm in Australia too, and the tele companies are useless in delivering Android updates.

Aren't most (not all) current devices being left behind on the update as business don't see much value in testing and implementation of Android OS upgrades/updates.

They tend to just let the phone and it's OS become obsolete to sell new phones.

The problem with the NBN scheme is not that it's never coming, it's that everything is branded as "NBN ready" and regular adsl 2+ connections are being sold and marketed as NBN plans.

It's not even remotely the same, it's as if regular adsl connections have just been renamed. 

I don't want to live in a country that is so incapable of forward thinking that it keeps its citizen in the stone age, if I wanted that I'd move to North Korea.
