Assassin's creed Unity correct settings for best visuals/performance!

i_build_nanosuits

i have both games and personally i prefer unity i think the game is really beautiful and fun so far and it only gets better as you progress.

But it's different for everybody i guess but now that unity is running all well and nice i really like it.

To be fair, my statement was made with the fact I have only played 30mins of Unity, and 30 hours of FC4.

I'm sure if I gave it more time I'd have a different view.

It's totally about personal preference,...Bow & Arrow games.. I love that kind of stuff.

But I do like me some swordplay too, just not had enough time with it.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

i would set these settings:

Environment quality: HIGH

Texture quality: HIGH (ULTRA for 280X since this card has 3GB of VRAM)

Shadow quality: HIGH (cut to medium if you don,t get enough frames)

Ambient oclusion: HBAO+

Anti-Aliasing: FXAA (this is VERY important)

Bloom: ON

and me who have 760??

PC Specs: Case Corsair Vengeance C70 - CPU i7-4770K @3.5Ghz - MOBO Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H - RAM HyperX Fury 2x8GB @1600Mhz - GPU MSI VENTUS RTX 2080 SUPER - HDD Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB, Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB, WD Black 4TB - PSU EVGA 750 G2 - Display Samsung S22C150 - CPU Cooler CM 212 Hyper EVO - Mouse Steelseries Sensei 310 - Current Wattage by pcpartpicker: 387W.

and me who have 760??

for 1080p you should start with those settings and see how it goes i would think:

Environment quality: MEDIUM

Texture quality: MEDIUM

Shadow quality: MEDIUM

Ambient oclusion: SSAO

Anti-Aliasing: FXAA (this is VERY important)

Bloom: ON

And VSYNC ON..

I love it when Texture Quality doesn't have much of a performance hit if at all... not all games do this however..

Lowering the other settings and keeping textures at High may still be worthy and not take much away.. (Have not tested this myself in this game)

^Reminds me of my HD4600 playing BF4 @ low res, on Low, but with High textures, was quite good (considering)

I might actually put my 270x back in my machine tomorrow to find out.... 2GB Vram + Performance as well...

/I may forget, if YOU remember @I_B_N, remind me ;)

I find it weird you cannot get suitable performance in this game from your 270x

On Ultra with my 290 (remember the 290 is basically 2x 270x) I get 50-60fps, on High, I'd be above 60fps a lot, medium-High mixtures, I'd be comfy as hell performance wise...

If lowering details puts me above 60 constantly, and you got half of my performance, you should net 30fps+ with reduced details...

If only the ideal idea's worked in an ideal world.....

/It's currently 1am, until the next 12 hours (tomorrow) I may be busy, so I'll do it when I get home probably 14-20 hours from now...

I'll poke my head in here anyway like I always do...to see this and remind myself...

fx 8320

i remember assasin's creed black flag was running poorly on my FX-8320 but i was getting around 35 to 45 FPS out of my GTX 780 which was used around 60 to 70% in this game...major CPU bottleneck....but a 270X should have a mouthful at medium/lowish settings with this CPU delivering a 35 +/- FPS gaming experience...it should be okay, your parts a balanced.

HBAO+ down one step gives back a bit too, But I'd wait until you find out how ^this^ goes @gilang01

I'm back... and things are going well, for the most part.

Environment quality: ULTRA

Texture quality: ULTRA

Shadow quality: HIGH

Ambient oclusion: HBAO+

Anti-Aliasing: SMAA (forced through RADEON PRO)

Bloom: ON

i'm getting 32-40 fps...

damn thing's unoptimized

I have an OC 280x (1150/1600) and an i5 3570 with 8 gigs of ram BTW

Does Shadow to Medium make them blocky or still okay looking.?

I'm sure you could still tweak further for more FPS.

Like Enviro Quality to High/medium while Textures still at Ultra.

Ambient OCC to SSAO, instead of HBAO+.

Maybe to get 40fps+ constant...

I think you could... depends if you want to of course ;)

I suppose as long as it NEVER drops below 30fps for more than 0.25s and rises backup that's playable enough for most people (in this game)

Hmm... low shadows looks decent enough, but it doesn't give that much fps (1-2fps)

you force SMAA because FXAA is not available for AMD GPU's?

yeah that's what i thought....@gilang01 try FXAA for better performance and much better looking renderings.

^I probably don't need to do the 270x bench today if the 280x is getting that, then most people 'should' be able to judge that the 270x is a little behind those numbers.

Not by a lot, but enough to say 'speculate the performance delta' yourself and make changes needed to boost performance.

Enviro/Shadow/AmbientOCC @ medium style settings would prob do the 270x justice.

Remember most people will not believe you.. ;) Burnt by other games...

But it's true PEEPS.. FXAA in THIS ONE GAME, is implemented well.

When im just running around the world i get 24-ish fps on low

When in combat its 19-22 fps on low

It also comes down to what other parts you have too, if your CPU is of weaker sauce... the game responds with lower than expected gameplay from decent GPU's too. But this game is NO indication of optimized performance... So even stronger CPU's can suffer too.

this game is using a new version of FXAA. There is a 5fps performance hit. Use an SMAA injector, and turn off FXAA, you'll hit 60fps globally everywhere in the game with a decently clocked GTX970.

FXAA is the one that hit performance the least in this game and believe it or not is the one that give the best visual results as well...try it out for yourself and see...95%+ of the time i'm pinned at 60FPS with vsync on and it's buttery smooth with only a ''decently clocked'' GTX 780 as you would say.
