800Dusty

ToroddWold

Hey guys!
So I'm going to upgrade an 800D for a friend of mine.
It's an old 800D in dire need of some love

Part list:
CPU - intel i7 4790K
PSU - Corsair HX1000i
MOBO - Asus Maximus Formula VII
GPU - Asus R9 290

post-19986-0-21331700-1417382978_thumb.j
The plan so far:
I'm going to replace the mobo, CPU, PSU and a lot of the watercooling parts
the 360 and 120 rads got to go,
420 in the roof and a 240 in the bottom (some modding required)

Dust everywhere  :(

I've been playing with the idea of making a cover pannel for the lower compartment (just a mockup.)
what do you guys think? maybe some art on it?

Looks great already, I agree with the cover panel. I personally am a fan of a clean/simple look so I would keep it black. Otherwise I would put some sort of text on it (own name/nickname/name of the build).

Yeah, I think maybe some text would look good (allready have some ideas) trying to keep it as clean as posible ;)

Yayy A 800D salvage! :) I like where this is headed!

Thank you  :)

He decided to upgrade his GPU from a 7970 to a R9 290 and he might ad a second one later

New pump and pump top arrived

post-19986-0-95525800-1418588479_thumb.j

the original plan of a 420 in the top was scraped as it would require a lot of cutting in the 5 1/4 bays

post-19986-0-51670300-1418588454_thumb.j

going for a 480 instead B) (getting ready to cut)

post-19986-0-09287300-1418588464_thumb.j

Quite happy with the cut as this is my first time doin anything major like this, and the cut had to be right where the old fan gril started curving down

post-19986-0-92609100-1418588486_thumb.j

All done :P

post-19986-0-14805800-1418588494_thumb.j

Just when I thought things were going smoothly it turns out the rad gard I recived for the bottom rad doesn't have the standard spacing between the fans (normaly it's 15mm but these are more like 20mm)

So I'll have to wait until I get the right one before I do the last cut :(

OK, I am following this, if only for the cat pics, because I'll be damned if that cat isn't perfect for the camera.

That cat would be perfect for a "Caption this" contest. :P

Well, that and maybe a little bit of nostalgia for the 800D...
