g3258 vs amd cpu for gaming

But how do you feel about the cpu's you can "upgrade" to on the same socket? Strictly speaking about gaming.

i would feel the G3258 to be a 80$ wasted i would rather save up some more and get a core i3 as i've already mentionned or an i5-4440.

The Pentium is a good CPU in its own area.

Games that use a MAX of two threads.

For ANYTHING ELSE go with a quad or more.

I second this ;)

I dont recommend buying the pentium, nor the fx or athlon. Because for future upgrades intel is better than amd and if you buy the pentium you just spend 70$ for a chip that wont be used for long. I recommend an i3

but of course you arent a mlg pro player and play like 3h a week and dont have a lot of money to spend on pc, its hard to decide tho...

Longboarders/ skaters message me!

and I would feel the amd cpu AND motherboard would be a waste. At least you have the ability to get an i3,i5, or i7. Can't really say the same about the amd platform.

You are completely right. Having a budget forces you to make compromises, but IMO I would still try to "future proof" your build in the sense of not over spending, but choosing main parts that will easily facilitate an upgrade in the future (bigger case, different cpu socket, bigger psu, etc).

What if you know you want a powerful cpu FOR GAMING in the future, but don't have the money at the moment nor can stand waiting without your computer built? This is why I see buying the g3258 a great option.

Personally, I dont weigh upgradeability over out of box performance.

Performance trumps all in my book.

The minimum CPU that should be recommended is the i5-4440 and a 8320 (if they wanna do video editing stuff). Its not worth spending 80sih USD and not saving the extra 60-70 to get a I5. The i5 is well worth it.

@OP I know World of Warcraft falls under RPG a little better than MMO but really it's an MMORPG and last I recalled it doesn't need much besides modern hardware nothing spancy to get up and running. Like my bare essentials Samsung NP365E5C-S02UB can run WoW on a good day (meaning my internet is up to the task) pretty well.

WOW could run on my grandmas dual core amd 1.9Ghz laptop, but I'm talking about having a better experience on the pentium vs the amd cpu.

lol wtf is this? All I am saying is the pentium can hold its own pretty dam well against its more expensive amd counterparts! BUT you can upgrade your cpu to something that stomps any amd cpu in gaming...

How would performance trump all? You get 5% better performance for more $$$ in the first place I might add, but also you completely give up the ability to get a better cpu (for gaming at least)!!! How does that remotely make sense?

the truth is that for most games the athlon 860K or FX-4300 offers a better, smoother experience with less micro-stuttering and better frametime...they also cost about the same.

Yes intel does offer a better upgrade path but the G3258 is still 80$ for a pretty weak CPU.

Just sayin' that you don't need anything fancy for some games and I mean hey AMD Zen sounds promising now whether it will work on current FM2/FM2+/AM2/AM2+ sockets well that's just a wait and see kind of situation.

Though for certain cases yes Intel often offers an edge of some sort. Though I am tempted to miniaturize my hackintosh to an mATX so I can use a Fractal Design Core 1100, but I like the Define R4 better I think.

Wasn't the g3258 on Frys.com for $55?

Anyways, seeing how i5 2xxx's crush even the fx 9590 in gaming, that's pretty bad amd. It makes more sence to buy the g3258 and motherboard that will support the i4 4440/4460 like the Gigabyte GA-H81M-H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard for $40 rather than replacing your amd cpu AND motherboard for an i5/i7.

You will save money with the intel option (save money, intel, same sentence, wut) unless you never plan to upgrade your computer (some people don't).

True, and taking a quick skim through Steam's pc hardware spec list of tons or people who game, we don't need much to have fun :)

I always thought mini-powerful computers were the coolest thing ever, especially when they look badass!

AMD quad cores are more stable in gaming than the dual core Pentium, which has random dips in FPS over time.

With cheap cpu's like this, wouldn't you agree that the platform might be of higher concern?
