Why does steam suck so much ass

theloveablemoose

So my friend bought himself and me advanced warfare for my birthday and why u do dis. Basically we've been trying to move the game over to his SSD but he only has a 120gb so steam doesn't even try to discover the files if there isn't enough space but there isn't enough space because the game files are already on there. You see my issue and now i'm having to move my install of blops 2 off my SSD so it can discover the files that are already on the SSD. Honestly this thread has no purpose i just needed to vent my frustration.

What you just said makes no sense......

Do you mean, you transferred the files, then asked steam to discover them, but because the drive is full, it will not start the scan?

Why did you not install to the SSD directly through steam?

Also, honestly there is no need to take up 60gb of SSD space with advanced warfare, it loads almost instantly off my crappy WD Green drive

So you put the game in another folder and now steam can't find it? You can select where you want your game to be stored, and you can make new locations.

My friend downloaded the files so i copied the files over to my SSD but the files we're taking up space so it wouldn't even start to discover the files because of the lack of space caused by the files already being on there. Is it really that fast i mean i'm only installing it because my HDD is noisy but if that's the case then i'll tell my friend to just run it off the hard drive.

I actually understand what you are saying, and that probably was my only issue with steam ever. No way around it that I know of, I just moved a smaller game off and then back after the large one was finished

To be fair they have the feature to discover the files but they havent put a dedicated option for it. It looks for availible space without asking if the files are already on the storage drive.

So because you can't figure out how to do something that it the software's fault?

People this is a legitimate issue with moving games on steam. What he is saying is once he moved it to his ssd the steam install wont start because it reads the drive does not have room for the full game when it's already on the drive completely. I don't see how that wouldn't bother any of you. That means he either has to free up space or download the game directly to the drive instead of moving it. That is crappy.

The game was already on the SSD but steam wouldn't launch the game saying that it failed due to an unknown error. And the quick load times are extremely nice SSD will literally give 0 performance advantage in any game.

I feel like you have never come close to having to much space used on your drive. Say he has 65gb free, he moves cod over and now he has 20gb or whatever it is. He goes to discover the files so the game becomes playable (the files are already installed at this point) but steam say no. You don't have the space required for this game. It happened to me once on my old drive moving battlefield. What steam should be doing instead is discovering files before trying to allocate space.
