I'm getting 3 old PCs, what should I do?

A friend's brother tried to make something out of three ancient PCs he found and now that he is heading off to college I am given the PCs. I don't quite know the specs, so I'm going to guess something along the Pentium line and very little RAM. What should I do with them?

Scrap a lot of the parts then build one PC with the Best CPU as much RAM as will fit and all the HDD's

The same thing I did with my ancient Sempron and 512mb RAM. Run Linux on it and build a server for whatever you need, or just mess around with linux distros for learning purposes.

Salvage the HDDs and put them into the most powerful machine and use that as a server.

best thing to do is ask this question again after you have all the parts out and know what they are.

home theatre pc.

server for media.

game server.

mass storage container plugged in directly to your main computer. (just put a bunch of drive cages in them... wont be moving it so it doesnt need to be all that secure......

 

you could mail them to me if they're of no worth for you, i live near a computer shop and can use them there/in my next rig... i mean..... to maximize preformance you must put cash munnys in all the drive bays and like.... mail it to me.......

if they are old enough they might be worth loads. pentium 1 and 2's are expensive now.

Can't you find the specs in the BIOS? If not there, then a live linux on a usb to check the specs would work. You could also physically check the specs

Use one as a NAS definitely! Just have to install a nas4free, and maybe the hard drive. Dunno about the other ones, HTPC?
