5k monitor

jamese669

sooooo there appears too be a 5k monitor from dell

http://www.maximumpc.com/dells_5k_monitor_pre_reviewed_2014

is it me or is this too much too soon

i mean it nice to have new stuff and i mean 5120x2880 is probably a badass res to watch porn on but it's undoubtedly holy of god expensive

and you probably have to jump through a few techie hoops to get it working. once i got 3 4k monitors on my gtx 21324354 and pay only 20 quid then ill want 5k

if already posted dont bother telling me just get mod to remove :)

So are we gonna permanently switch to just using the horizontal pixel count as the naming convention for resolutions?

480, 720, 1080, 1440... you will forever be in my heart (RIP).

All you need are four Titans in SLI for a proper framerate! Seriously though it's too soon and i'm sure only a small portion of people game at 4k.

love the way the dude said at the end that all of our 4k panels that we just bought are now... obsolete.

Isn't the successor to 4k, 8k?

I don't give an F about this personally, we need an OS that can properly scale high resolutions and IPS monitors with faster response times... and G-sync.

I'm annoyed now.

I prefer that 4K is an exact multiple of 1080p so there's no interpolation when viewing HD content. But there's no reason PC monitors need to adopt cinematographic or TV standards. I think the way 1080p became a standard for so long and 1440p and 16:9 became niche and expensive was a detriment to PC use in general.

Yes

We have one, called Linux.

IPS is limited to 4ms unless someone puts together lightning-fast graphene switches.

But...why?

It just seems like a trivial jump in pixels...But then again...that 1000 or so pixel jump is still nearly more than some of my monitors :P

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

So apparently the monitor is 2,500$ based on the maximimumPC article. That is actually cheap.

I mean, considering that the current 32-inch 4K is 3500$, required added circuitry to merge 2 DisplayPort to output 1 image, and is 5K, and not the more produced 4K panels. Based on the video it also looks like it is an IPS panel, or a derivative from.

I'd love 4K 16:10 at 24-26" honestly.
