I've been needing a new flashlight since all of mine can't even light up a small room. I like going overkill so I'm looking for something with hundreds of lumens (prefer 200+) and that goes a far distance and can easily light up a forest. I don't like the type that are bigger at the top. I love the small cylinder type. It needs to fit in a pocket, not to long. I've been looking on Amazon and I can't find any decent ones that are under $40 and aren't rip offs. I noticed alot of reviews on the 1000 lumens + type say it was no where near that bright. That's the problem with websites with Amazon and Ebay. The only one I saw that looked ok was this: http://www.amazon.com/Tactical-LED-Flashlight-High-Lumen-Waterproof/dp/B00CB4UCW4/ref=sr_1_1?s=hardware&ie=UTF8&qid=1407791730&sr=1-1&keywords=flashlight.

However I'm trying to find something even brighter. Does anyone know of any good brands, or flashlights themselves that are small, and bright but under $40?

They don't last and they aren't good for outdoors.

Led Lenser and Fenix Tactical are some of the best quality flashlights out there.

Olight is also good, but only for the 1000+ lumen searchlights.

I'm pretty sure you can find a 200+lm flashlight that has a several hundred meter beam.

Totally misread title.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up one of those big ones with the giant batteries that weight like 5 pounds.

Buy some cargo pants with that, or a lanyard to hang it around your neck (105% badass)

or just use your phone

Error: 410

My pants would fall off if I tried to put that in my pocket.

Grab a LED Lenser, it will last you forever and have more than enough shiny brightness for any use.

These, LED lensor are the bomb diggity.  Don't waste your time with anything else, sometimes you can get lucky with a cheap ebay knock off of the LED lensors but they won't last as long.

LED lensor are today what MAGlight where in the 90's.

fenix and led lenser are my two favourite brands. I have a L7 from led lenser and a TK41 from fenix.

I have to say the lens focus of the led lenser flashlights is really good for long range beams on low lumen flashlights (by low i mean less than 500)

My 860 lumen tk41 has a 500m range though, and is way brighter obviously :P It also cost $150

I recommend you compare the fenix and led lenser flashlights in your price range and find the one with highest lumens and farthest throw. Are you specifically looking for rechargeable or non-rechargeable?

only real thing that happened to it was some of the anodizing wear off all around it and the key ring was starting to eat through the hold for the lanyard

I'm trying to look for farthest throw, rechargable battery preferred.

Farthest throw under $50 will be led lenser. It won't be rechargeable though unless you want to spend a lot more...

Non-rechargeable batteries will last a lot longer than rechargeable though.

Fenix tactical will make you pay an extra $20-80 for the rechargeable batteries and charger...

i don't think fenix are all the throwy more spread although if you are out in the dessert they throw rather far since there is little other light. I saw a a guy walking with a mag light and only saw the bulb directly not light being cast anywhere and i light up the whole area he was in from a good distance with a single battery 180 lumen light. If you want rechargeable i would say get something that takes a standard battery like AA or cr123 and just get rechargeable batteries and a charger for them
