Great deal on some video cards. EVGA 9800GTX and 8800GTS cards, Radeon 2600XTX, and an unidentified small lad.

image.png.36ce2168c11d16cfe1130a70f0919cf2.png

If even one of these works, I'll have gotten my money's worth.

Then yknow... the ordinary 5-computers-a-month purchase. I call it "Computermaxxing"; it's a new trend.

Latest of interest have been TouchSmart IQ770 (weird touchscreen AIO thing before the market for that existed), three different limited edition HP Pavilion laptops w/nice custom paint jobs, and a nice Pavilion with GeForce 9600 graphics.

Finally bought some fans for my PC. I fucked up the cable for my stock AIO fans the day I got it when I was desleeving it, and when I took it apart to clean the connector came off sooooo it was time for a replacement. Plus side is these are black instead of having white blades so now the only thing that stands out in my system are the lil A40x20's that cool my SSDs.

Now I'm just waiting on CableMod to hurry the fuck up so I can have the correct length 24 pin and EPS cables, and then I'll finally be able to put the side panels back on this thing.

Just bought this set of weather shields for my car, as I continue to turn it into something that resembles a car driven by an old bloke. Also just ordered some new wiper blades as I don't like the ones that are on it currently.

Windows 8 ‘Metro’ has to be the most unintuitive interface I ever had to fumble through. The one machine I had with that on it was upgraded to Windows 10 as soon as I could.

Get a physical copy of Shitdos 11 and make that three.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

A Sony STR-DH190 stereo receiver was my last recent tech purchase.

After owning it personally since about 2005, and being originally manufactured in 1986, my ADCOM stereo preamp finally had a problem cleaning the potentiometers and re-seating components couldn’t fix. This made me a bit sad because it is really difficult to find new (affordable) equipment with a phono stage these days, but an extremely budget-friendly Sony option exists.

It doesn’t offer all the options my ADCOM did, but works with the common type of turntable cartridges, and has the added benefit of remote control, and Bluetooth pairing for my music library on my phone; All the options.

Specs claim it has 100w continuous per channel even at an 8ohm load, potent enough for the small room I’m in, and more than enough to drive the Paradigm Titan V4 speakers I use. I don’t know if my old preamp had degraded some even before the problems, but the clarity is admirable for something this value-conscious.

For $149 US it was hard to beat. Not sure if anyone will buy my old power amp, but I gave the ADCOM to someone that works on stereos to see if they can fix it, and if so can sell it.

It staggers me how far we've come with IEMs/earphones.

Picked these up for $44 (usually $50~55), during the recent aliexpress sale.

They have 14.2mm planar magnetic drivers, and while fit and finish is a bit rough, the cable they come with is a beautiful silver plated copper braided cable, and is replacable/non-proprietary (4.4mm TRRRS jack, but also available as a normal 3.5mm TRS).

It's got a W-shaped curve tune, which I find a bit intense at higher volumes, but is generally very well done. If you're a bass head, give it a bit more sub bass on an EQ (or turn on a bass boost), and it'll punch very hard and fast, just like any good planar does. Just an incredibly detailed, energetic sound. Especially if your hearing's getting a little weaker, I think these'll let you hear frequencies you haven't in a while.

Bloody hell, you used to have to pay in the $600~1000 for this kind of sound, only half a decade or so ago.

And they're easy to drive, almost anything should be able to, although they do get better with more power.

Oh, they're called the Artti T10. The tips they come with aren't great, I like Acoustune AET06, which you can also get on Ali.

the firegl card is firegl mxrt 5200, a medical display card, it does some stupidly high resolution grayscale thing for X-rays

What a bizarre card, the VIA. Never heard of it.

And yes, FireGL V5600, a rebadged Radeon 2600 that Barco once again rebadged as the MXRT 5200. Fun cards, the V7200/V7300 are good alternatives to the Radeon X1800XT or GeForce 6800 Ultra for like $15. Barco still makes those MXRT cards with modern Radeon Pro chips.

Fun fact, a FireGL was actually the first 2GB GPU ever made (FireGL V8650), shared a die with Radeon 2900.

In my quest for getting my stereo fully-functional again, I needed a remote for my 1989-vintage Denon DCD-820 CD player. As with many of the audio components I’ve had over the years I bought this at a pawn shop, so no remote. ‘Couldn’t you just go push the buttons on it?’ I can hear the questions now…

No! As much as I like this player, it had one feature I was unaware of: The RCA-type audio outputs on this unit, unlike any other media player like this I’ve had, are actually variable. And wouldn’t you know it those controls exist nowhere on the unit itself, and are instead solely on the remote.

I had unplugged this CD player from power for long enough that this setting reset to the factory default, which is about 10% of total output power. But eBay to the rescue, after finding the owners manual online and verifying the model of remote needed, I got one for less than $20 shipped.

So far I’ve had Tool, The Police, Genesis, and Rush propelled into my earholes; CD’s are back in business over here.

I paid entirely too much for one of these: A BNIB Microsoft Pro IntelliMouse in Shadow Black. I wanted to get both the Pro and standard versions when they were still in production and I'm paying the price for not doing so.

Very early impressions are good, all things considered. I absolutely love the smaller ambi style of the G203 and GPW, however for being a bigger ergo mouse meant for righties the Pro IntelliMouse is very comfy. And the software is... Surprisingly good. So far only complaint is that the left/right clicks are very snappy and a bit on the loud side, and I guess my universal hatred for braided cables on mice.
