Silent Red FTW.

I wish they'd offer perforated mice with a vinyl wrap or something---to keep grime/dust out.

All these perforated mice these days reminds me of the old 'speed holes' skit from The Simpsons

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

Big purchase dump time! Some are here, some are not. Most aren't pictures of my stuff since they've already been put in their places.

Item #1: Apple 820-1086-A. A replacement logic board for my Power Mac G4 Yikes!. It's essentially a Power Mac G3 B&W without the ADB port.

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.881140e5b036906adddbe702db788719.png

My board looks slightly different as it's a different revision - the CPU socket is uniform instead of having ridges, and the RAM slots use the rotating arms as DIMM slot bits instead of having the black plastic go up. Quite cool to look at. Everything else works the same though, and yes I have a modem. Can't use it yet though.

Item #2: The Art of Invisibility, by Kevin Mitnick. Found it at a Barnes & Noble (where they still sell Nook readers, surprisingly) and used my $20 gift card on it. Interesting read.

Spoiler

IMG_0001.thumb.jpeg.778b607bd8f70d680df2a7c71e4852e2.jpeg

Item #3: PSP-1000 stick. I posted this before, but here it is in action:

Spoiler

IMG_0002.thumb.jpeg.6fb5ace04b822cc70da48a40aaf541b7.jpeg

It's a lot better than the stupid rubber nub that Nintendo chose. Makes Smash easier.

Item #4: Apple Pro Mouse M5769. Bought, not yet arrived. Pictured is the eBay listing.

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.6f39603d87fa569fdd15638c93244cdd.png

I already have an Apple Pro Keyboard M7803 (Black) so I got the mouse after I fixed my PMG4 up. This leads directly into item #5.

Item #5: Hopefully an Apple Studio Display 17" M7649, which perfectly matches the color scheme of the Power Mac G4 that I have (will be checking the thrift store tomorrow to see if it's still there). With the additional purchase of an Apple A1006, I'll be able to use it with my G4 and have a complete set. It will be replacing my iMac G5 17" ALS on my desk as that iMac has no logic board currently.

The display looks like this:

Spoiler
Image 1 - Apple M7649 Studio Display 17 inch 1280 x 1024 ADC LCD Monitor -

And the PowerDVI adapter like this:

Spoiler

image.png.780473ce6aa50ad50b342c4ff1b5955c.png

The display handily includes a 2-port USB hub, so along with the 2-port hub on my keyboard (one of which is taken by the mouse) I'll have turned 2 USB ports into 4, 3 of which are usable without unplugging my mouse.

Item #6: Cover art v2 for my Undertale CD. It's now one paper printed on both sides. Yes, you can see the M7803 above.

Spoiler

IMG_0003.thumb.jpeg.5a636e7a247c283df4f9860ab34b8a02.jpegIMG_0004.thumb.jpeg.506c6d84dbc9c1934d3d1b71dd5bb1b2.jpeg

I also added all 7 SOULs to the CD (originally I only had 4 - Patience, Integrity, Kindness, Determination) and made it run automatically. It is Windows-only though. I know it doesn't look like Justice (the yellow SOUL) is there, but it is if you look closely. Yellow Sharpies were hard to find and I used a highlighter instead.

Item #7: Evershore, Skyward novella #3. I highly recommend the Skyward series, and Brandon Sanderson in general. Don't blame me if you end up in a loop of Cosmere theories.

Spoiler

evershore.thumb.png.6e1999767e6daa6c708d57f1ed8b9a88.png

Item #8: 4 new Beanie Babies. I collect for fun and try to have as many as I am old (boy that'll be fun when I'm in my 80's). The 4 new additions are, from left to right:

Hoot, Fred, Valentino, Carl.

Spoiler

beanie.thumb.jpg.def478e175526ceecb150ea7cee59373.jpg

The cat's name was Scat, but I changed that to Fred because Scat is a stupid name.

I changed the goat's name to Carl from Goatee because I also felt Goatee was a stupid name for other reasons.

Got 2 of them, one with 4570T and one with 4590T, both 8GB RAM and 250GB SSD. First is my linux server, 2nd is bedroom media player connected to a projector. Really nice machines.

Mine had no WiFi but I added an m.2 AX200 to the bedroom one since running a cable to it would be a pain.

A bit of a mixed bag, didn't get an OE power adapter though the listing was shown with one, and it's actually slightly lower voltage than required, but it's a common replacement for this model and works. The old hard drive lasted about 35 minutes before absolutely getting unusable, but I had an SSD waiting and 21H1 Win.10 on a USB drive. After switching them I formatted the old spinning rust with another computer, and clearly someone had cleared as many of the SMART errors off the drive as they could, including the usage and start-up counts. CrystalDiskInfo showed that it was relocating bunches of sectors and had a caution notice, not something you'd expect on a drive with 3 hours of usage, haha.

Plusses though, it came with a 4590T, and the system is pretty quick even with my cheaper SSD in there, and the Intel wireless is excellent. Windows installed in about 15 minutes or less, got all the drivers while it was going. Actually a nice little machine, and nearly whisper quiet. I'm always still impressed with just how usable Haswell stuff is, even now.

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Arctic Fans 140mm x4 120mm x 1

got a Q1 build for a present, i was so tired of my old build, the KBDfans with Cherry MX browns, so tried something new, plus the 60% layout for me is just not enough i need my F row.

a Barebones Q1 kit, with Glorious Panda (yellow) liniears self lubed with Krytox 205g and spring exchange... i´m newer going back to tactile switches even through i write a LOT, and it is not for gaming..

just love the sound of this keyboard, the stabs could be better, and the aluminium backplate should be softer, maybe POM, i love the brass in my tactile build. but they are SOOOO smooth, and just the thocc.

took me longer than i am used to.. 4 hours to build, and i failed on 3 switches, 2 with bent pins, and 1 that just did not work. but fixed, and that is what i get for .. doing the last a bit to fast.. although they are evenly lubed.

BTW the F9 is switched to a "off white" key, did not notice that it was layed out wrong. just trickled my spidersenses when i saw the picture.

it is.  but you'd be surprised how quickly i can start pushing temps out of it with some games.  I was running Black Mesa with max settings on my 4k display, and was manually running CPU and GPU fans at 100% to keep temps under 70.  Was still showing hotspot at the GPU as 80+

Forgot that I'd ordered a pair of sheepskin (supposedly/allegedly) replacement earpads for my ENIGMAcoustics  Dharma D1000, they arrived today, needed a little trimming on the holes to fit my headphones. Managed to trim more or less to fit the headphone, now in the process of deciding whether to keep it, or swap back to the stock pads.

Ended up buying this lil dude, a 2014 Mac Mini with the 2.6GHz i5, 8GB of RAM, and (technically) a 1TB HDD, but I swapped that out immediately for the 250GB 840 EVO I had kicking around. It's more or less just a stop-gap to have a Mac while I wait for the next 3 centuries to get enough dough for a MBA/MBP. Overall not a bad machine, but you can certainly tell that the hardware is hitting 8 years old.
