I browse a lot on /r/battlestations, and after my furniture was destroyed by a tornado at our storage unit, I think I might order some furniture from Ikea. I see a lot of Galant and a lot of Linnmon. I'm thinking about making a Linnmon desk, but I have no experience with their furniture. I want to make an L desk, do I need ~6 legs or more? Any other tips/experience/recommendations are welcome!

Every thing in my dorm room is Ikea. They make good affordable stuff, what you would expect at those prices.

You all are awesome. Looking to build a corner desk - how many legs, tables, etc? I assume 2 table tops and 6 legs? Or?

EDIT: Also any recommendations on tops? I'm looking at Linnmon.

My chair and desk are from ikea. Chair id the malkon with black leather, really nice and comfortable. My desk is the black galant 160*80cm table top with chrome A-legs. Can recommend ikea 100%

The page should tell you how many legs are needed or include them in cost, that would depend on the type of legs you get. I had a Jerker desk and now have a Galant. I think they're pretty great for the price, though I would not recommend a glass surface. I'll probably go with a GeekDesk next time.

Every single thing I have ever ordered online from Ikea has arrived with some kind of damage grr. luckily customer service is good and sends replacement pieces. They just announced that Ikea is opening a store here in Vegas so I wont have to order online anymore.

Dude i bought a white linmon like last week and i have to warn you about the cablemanegement thing : SIGNUM

DO NOT to drill in the bottom of your tabletop it will create dents in the top part it says you have to,

but you need to put alot of force on it to penetrate the first layer and the inside is basically hollow so it breaks the other side. I'm not sure how you would mount it

Otherwise the linmon desks are good.

I have the stainles steel square legs (sjunne), and i can definatly recommend those, as for the table top they're all pressed wood/paper so only difference is colour (although there is an actual steel one i think)

"Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something."

Also needs a new profile picture..

Are you just throwing two tables together for the L shape? One table needs 4 legs or 2 trestles.

Well, table tech hasn't changed in hundreds of years, flat surface + 4 legs.

Point recieved, guys. Guess it was a somewhat stupid question, haha. I am throwing 2 tables together for the L shape, so I wanted to ensure there wasn't anything I should know.

Thanks for the tip man, this is the kind of stuff I'm looking for. Do you have any pictures of your set-up?

There is a post about ikea tables in the guides section,

Some of your questions should be answered there

Alot of people swear by them and they are good looking, in my own personal opinion. I wont buy a desk that is under $900-$1000, but I also have bought many desks over the curse of 16 years, ranging from $100 all the way up to my latest desk which I bought in 2012 that cost $4000. The rule of thumb is " you get what you pay for".

I've always said that Ikea furniture isn't for sitting on. I've never had a good experience with stuff I sit on from Ikea. Now, the entertainment center, coffee table and dresser I have are great.
