You know what I notice? Veteran posters rarely start new threads.

terrytek

I've been noticing that the veteran posters of at least 2K posts rarely, if at all, start new topics. I only see 1 veteran poster start a new post every week, which is usually about tech news. But I see like 3 quasi-veteran posters with 750-1500 posts start maybe 20 or so new threads a week. And then there are the posters with 500 or less posts who start maybe 50 a week. Is there something you veterans are hiding? I like starting a lot of threads because I like getting help from you vets and because I like starting new ideas. Is there something that you vets don't want to even share?

It's pretty simple. Most posts ask questions. And most veterans don't have as many questions as they are very knowledgeable. Therefore, they are able to answer the questions.

Maybe we don't have questions to ask? We already can troubleshoot and know the anwsers to them. I can't speak for others but the forum lately hasn't had anything of interest for me. Thus I lurk.

I don't have any questions/need any help, since I know everything I need to know already, or I can find the information I need faster by google. Research skillz :D

So what I do is help others with my knowledge when people need help, or post funny pictures of potatoes.

Herp derp.

I don't post new threads very often because my questions are very specific and technical most of the time.

  • I'm not interested in crap posting (i.e. most, if not all, of off-topic).
  • I'm not interested in posting news (we have people who specifically and explicitly do that already and there are enough of them).
  • I'm not interested in discussing specifics of any particular sub forum (i.e. networking, gpus, etc) because to be perfectly honest, there's very little I haven't read already somewhere else or even here that is useful to me. "The new GTX 880 will be 10-15% more powerful than the 780!1!!" Yeah. That's how every new flagship GPU is. Whip-de-doo. Similar analogies can be made for all components.
  • I'm not going to ask questions I can answer myself with Google, and my Google-fu is pretty powerful. There's an area between "Easy enough to Google" and "Too specific/difficult to ask on LTT and reliably get an answer." but it's so slim that I've pretty much learned as much as I can about it, so it's very rare I post a question thread.
  • I'm not going to post in the gaming sub forum because I'm very anti-social, even for games. Not sure why. It's complicated.
  • I don't "do" photo/video, home theater, or mobile devices. At all.
  • I'm not a software developer or designer.

This is why most of my threads that I've started are in GD (simply by process of elimination), build logs (I build a looot of computers), and guide/tutorials/reviews (I figure stuff out and really enjoy making a detailed post, such as this one, about it so others can learn).

Those are my reasons at least.

As for me,even though i among oldest member here, joining since 1st day of LTT forums,i barely have any posts recently as most questions are already answered by the time i got there.LTT used to be so small before that it take 10-15minutes to get a reply.

Number 6 I see too much on here at one point. Step 7 I kinda overdo it.
