Always look at what CPU the system has. GPU is not that necessary for gaming anyways.

I didn't really give anyone advice, but a couple years ago I 'serviced' (as best as I could at the time) my friends PC, and after taking the CPU heatsink off, thought "Oh, what's this crap, better get this off". It didn't start back up.
Funnily enough though, a couple months later, after he got a new PC, I found that old one at the tip after his dad threw it out. Being rather poor at the time, I took that and in combination with another free PC I got and whacked together my first desktop PC.

Yeah,

I still have a LGA 775 ASUS (P5K) that's running fine.

Although, my other P5K-EPU died in 2012

 

Their RMA service has been horrible, though. About 4 times when I've called I've asked if I can switch to a different SKU, offer to pay the difference (because the RMA dept. is obviously too incompetent to give us a good board with the same SKU) and I'm told if I get another bad board it will happen, but then they just deny it :'(

That was about 6 years ago when a friend had a damaged fan on his GPU back in the day... he screwed up big time cracked the PCB, forgot the thermal paste... all in all a nightmare. I ended up buying him a new card for my stupidity not to do that on my own in the first place .

Well... It is enough... considering I ran a 64GB SSD for over 3 years as my boot drive.. I just installed every non-essential softwares to a HDDs. If you're doing it right, it should never go above 25~30GB used space.

 

As for me...

"Just do this it worked great for me, it should work just fine for you too!" 5 minutes later I get a call telling me his PC doesn't boot anymore... great. This has happened, MULTIPLE times. (Replace "this" by whatever advice/softwares)

Oh and "You could totally use a sound card, here, buy this $200 ROG sound card from ASUS! It's totally worth it!" Can't tell the difference in sound. The extra features are nice, but I'm sure even the lower end cards have them... (Like noise cancelling for the mic, AMP and a few other things)
