I'd love to run Linux but the game support sucks. So i'm on 7. I know 8 is generally better but i just hate the layout and everything. If i got it for free i would upgrade tho.

I can't do linux because of the font rendering. Even with the right fonts and freetype configured to imitate windows TrueType, it's still different. As a web developer this saddens me. I should write a topic about that...

Classic Shell is free and makes Windows 8.1u1 look like Windows 7.5. I mean really. It's barely aesthetically different. I never use the charms or the Metro Start Screen. I haven't seen that thing in weeks (I randomly forget and click something attached to an App, then immediately Alt + F4 to exit it which leads to the Start Screen).

But IMO, the UI and interface is much better than 7 and miles ahead of 8.

8.1 takes even less work than 8 to set up. All you have to do is change a few settings (literally takes <5 mins) and it's in every way superior. I'm running it without any 3rd party apps and I like the feel of it more than 7 and 8.

You can just disable charms and obviously metro start.

The new start screen that replaces the start button is superior and easier/quicker to work with and navigate.

EDIT- I HAD AN ENLIGHTENING IDEA! What if there was a program like Ninite (Linus talked about) that installs all your cracked programs for you without needing to crack each one individually?

 Right click is the same as usual, the function only changes when you right click on the start button and it brings up that list of utilities and shut down, sleep etc that are otherwise a complaint that Win 8 was lacking.

 

I still prefer 7. That boot time tho.

I know that feel. I took a screenshot of all of my installs before moving to 8.1. I didn't do much bulk downloading, so I'll just reinstall on a by-need basis.

I thought 8 was better than 7, 8.1 is vastly superior to 8. MS hasn't had me gushing for a long time.
