My 4090 lit on fire. Need help

wtfmofo

Hello. I bought a PC from marketplace.  Paid cash.  Have no proof of anything.   It has a gigabyte 4090 in it.   It all the sudden started burning and quit working.   Not the cable but the part where it plugs into the motherboard.

I don't know what to do.  Am I screwed?   I hope not.

Who did you buy it from?

RMA the card I guess if you can't get a hold of the seller.

Yeah you are SOL. Gigabyte is not going to cover a second hand GPU like that more then likely. Most of the companies wont transfer warranty to a new owner, EVGA was one of the only companies willing to do that.

Given the damage visible, and the fact that it was on fire, yeah you're screwed. How long did you have it for?

so many of the gigabyte boards have broken just there, check krisfix germany and northwestrepair, they are using subpar pcb's that can't hold the load without breaking, it should be a class action lawsuite.

it was probably sold because they had problems with the rig, not realizing the pcb was broken, or if they did they knew gigabyte rejects warranty claims when they are broken at that point.

you however, without receipt of purchase, are quite screwed..

what you could do is send it to northwestrepair and ask if he got a donor PCB if the core and memory chips are still alive.. depending on where you are tho.. he's in the US.

So the card has not been registered yet.   Any chance I register it and get a warranty exchange?

Part of that is likely proof of purchase. And since you're not the original purchaser, I don't think it'll work out.

However, you should be chasing after the seller, not the manufacturer.

This requires the seller to be cooperative, which is not a given.

Seller knew he cracked the card, he had to have heard it. This is the kind of person seller is.

Its better to claim insurance company than warranty

Since everything is user error

I wouldn't say it's better. It's an option, but it comes with downsides also. Every time you make a claim, they have reason to a)increase policy cost b) flat out refuse to continue policy.

While those both are true, it's the only thing to do if OP can't get receipt from seller. And even then, as I've heard that warranty in US is per buyer, not per product (which is stupid). Also, both of those are options might be mainly a thing with US insurance companies. I've had several insurance claims over the years and my insurance cost hasn't changed.

Eh I don't know about usa. I'm Canadian.

Another option is a card charge back if bought using a credit card.
