So I finally had my first encounter with a porn account on snapchat, got added by user somehow and got curious so I accepted it. Said hello, then noticed their story had stuffs... it was indeed stuffs. So I decided to fix the issue...

After passionately arguing in favor on SSDs for windows for about 2 hours and getting nowhere really, a discord mod stepped in and I got perma-banned from discord for being an "argumentative person". I'm left wondering how the hell this can happen in a tech community this large.

 

What are we going to argue about next? You don't need running water in your home? You don't need a nicer car than a 1975 Lada? Ridiculous.

I got permabanned from that shit (whole site not the LTT room) for not "verifying" I have a phone lol

I have 15 (fully functional) computers, and getting another one after the holidays. I should sell some of them, but I have difficulty getting rid of computer stuff. It's a sickness I know...

Oh heck my friend, most are old/obscure servers that would cost you a fortune to ship, I like to tinker with old/weird/unique hardware. It's just a hobby after I come home from a day of being an IT admin of old/weird/unique hardware...

Dell PowerEdge 2900 Model III with twin E5430 Xeons, 48GB ECC Registered DDR2, GTX 550 Ti, wireless, nVME m.2 drive in a PCIe adapter, 2TB RAID 5, 1TB in twin 2.5 drives, PICe sound, wireless. Weight is about 70 lbs

Not yet, I don't have all the parts to make it capable with that currently.

My PE 2900 is running Linux right now, I assume CB doesn't have a linux client?

Server-level hardware is so much more fun to work with than consumer-grade stuff, but it's oftentimes a challenge as well, as the server was never meant to be a gaming box, and you can forget about any sort of overclocking. But you will learn a lot about hardware and pushing it past design limits.

 

Old PowerEdge serves can be had for under 20$ on Craigslist these days, which is where I get all mine

The biggest challenge at the time, was getting a proper video card in the server. The PCIe design spec only supports 25 watts in the main channel, so there was some question about what would happen when putting a high power video card in.

Also, the biggest slot in the 2900 is x8, I have to physically cut down the video card PCIe interface to fit, but after much research (and some breath holding) I discovered the loss from x16 to x8 is practically background noise.

Somewhere in the forums is a post showing off the system with all I had to do to make it work.

What tech gift would you get a 17 year old nephew who is into digital dj'ing, but who you dont know very well?

Is it me or Amazon isn't the same.

 

Ordered a bunch of cables, it said pack of 2. Turns out there's only a single one.

 

Complained to customer support, they said they were sorry for the inconvenience and would correct the listing. Thanks I guess? A whooping C$12.99

 

Ordered another one and managed to get premium shipping (C$6.99) at no cost after complaining more, but c'mon.

You're welcome! I was thinking along the lines of one of the Dj-style ones that you could program effects to, not a twitch streaming one if that wasn't clear.

They button style is just different between the two that's all.
