Yeah I wouldn't tell him about the hole if you already paid someone to fix it.

I'd make sure you keep the receipt from paying the bricklayer to fix the hole. So in case there's a stink about it later you can prove you paid for the repair.

 

You could have bought a rat trap. Put it up in the hole and caught one. Took it out of the trap then put it someplace in the building where everyone would see it and complain about it.

 

Maybe you could just say you hear scratching sounds in the hallway walls when your standing out there.

If he comes in your room to look around he might notice the new mortar on the ceiling the bricklayer used to patch the whole.

Hopefully you can find a better building because that place sounds like a dump.
