That psu was god tier for its time, I probably wouldn’t use it for a modern system but it’s a quality product of its time

Thats all i can say based onhow little you said. Check the fan speed, if it runs 100% non-stop -> borked sensor, if it varies the speed depending on load something is screwing with the SW u use to read out the temp.

So i figured out how to change the FOV in Halo 1 without requiring HAC2 or Chimera

Both of those require the 1.10 patch, that doesnt work without net framework 4.03 which im too uncaring to install on XP, and half the time they dont work anyway

So you need this program called Eschaton, which is a float editor for Halo 1 maps

 

for any of you who have never played halo 1 on PC, there is no FOV control, it has a terrible fov, it requires mods to change it

 

 

Using that you can change the FOV value for every single map, individually, you cant do it globally because the FOV value is actually a map related value for some unholy reason

 

And after changing every single map including all the campaign maps, i now have an fov of "1.7" instead of 1.2222, which i think is something like 68 degrees?

I dont know what degree fov i actually have now but its way better than 68 degrees

 

id also like to note this XP machine is running the game pretty damn well for being in 1600x1200 at max settings, a solid 30fps

Guess not.

 

Personally, I think the idea of a glass mousepad is "almost, but not quite" for me.  We need hovermice.  Like magnets in the mouse and pad that repulse each other and allow the mouse to float on a cushion of air.  Not much.  Just enough to keep the mouse about .5mm off the pad.  You'd still have a hard pad; but now you have 0 friction, 0 noise, and no feet wearing out.

theres something kind of funny about using a now 11 year old laptop for everyday things and having zero issues with any of it

like, nothing feels particularly slow, web browsing is fine, youtube plays fine, the few games this hardware can handle all play fine

if it wasnt for the mediocre graphical performance for what i need to do, using something like this daily is barely any different than any other system

 

all the people buying cheap modern laptops makes me question like, what are you really doing on them where you need that over just whatever you have?

this is now 10 generations of processor out of date, theres no noticeable difference between this and my P50 when it comes to regular usage (and even the P50 is now 5 years old)

battery usage, them being lightweight, harddrives making people think the hardware is slow. also chassis degrade with use.
