How Do You Calm Your Anxiety?

Jogostar

Hello Folks!

Let's say you're minutes before an important interview or test and you're really nervous.

How do you calm yourself down in these situations?

Thanks. :)

I pace and pace and pace and pace and pace...you get the point :P Yeah I feel ya on that. What's worse is I get clammy hands when I'm nervous...so you know how handshakes turn out :(

But what I do is just take breaths.

yeah the breathing thing seems to make me even more nervous in some cases.

but yes, I always tell them I have a cold or something, so they won't have to take a shower after a handshake. :P

Generally that feeling is natures way of preparing the body to run like fuc billy-o or defend yourself, (fight or flight).

I use that feeling to put me on top-form, unless it gets to the stammering/mumbling stage it is not a problem.

If it is becoming all consuming a few deep breaths (but not to the hyperventalating stages) and thinking of those interviewing you on the toilet (as all humans do) helps calm you down at least to the hepped-up rather than stammering stage.

Easy to say hard to do, but if you think to yourself (and truely believe) " I can't die of this" and "this too will pass" this also will stop you getting too hyper

close your eyes, and think of something else, idk sipping a pinda-colada on the beach (whatever) or think of nothing, concentrate on the blackness, breath very slowly (you naturally will do this anyway), do this for at least 10 seconds, do not count though, just do it until you start to calm and then open your eyes but this time be determined that you will succeed in whatever it is

Just pop a ton of temezepam and walk into the interview and they are all like 'Good morning' and you are all like 'Gurd Mornig'.

Usually (if I can) I go for a smoke and treat myself after the exam/interview/etc. with a little something (DVD, book,...but nothing expensive). Thinking of and looking forward to a little reward usually makes it easier for me ;-)

I usually try to convince myself that "I've got this" or "it's gonna be easy."

If I believe myself that I can get over it, I normally can.

I still get horrible anxiety a lot, and have to take a second to sort my head out.

I just think logically, and believe with all my heart that I can do it, and I tend to be ok.

1990's could be considered old scool in terms of rap. ^^

Yeah completely a joke, probably not the best way to go. MGS lied to me

I never really get anxiety, but I used to when I first started taking jobs as a photographer. I used to get all sweaty and panicky, it went away naturally though once I had done a few so it's kind of knowing what to do with yourself. Obviously depends on the situation, I suppose you never really know what to expect with an interview but you just have to learn how to 'switch off' and concentrate on the task at hand, shoulders back, head up, and breathe slowly with your stomach.

I also find lot's of eye contact with people helps as you tend to be thinking more about them than yourself.

Blondie's Rapture was 1981 don't get much more old school than that.
