I can't wait for the follow up  "Nintendo took our video down and we're now fighting a legal battle against them"... Or in typical LTT clickbait "NINTENDO IS SUING US?!"  or "WE'RE SUING NINTENDO!?"

Great video, interesting to see Yuzu set up manually. However I would advise anyone looking to emulate on Steamdeck to take full advantage of the great work by the team at Emudeck. It’s a script that downloads and configures a bunch of emulators and the various directories. All you have to do is put your firmware, keys, and switch games in the right folder. And then of course it’s all fully editable after the fact if you need to make tweaks.

Nintendo only legally fights when they know they can win, otherwise they run the risk of expanding legal protections for emulation. Most of what they do these days are exploit and abuse systems designed to prevent actual infringement to their benefit, or shakedown small modders. "Oh that's a nice fanmade sequel to Majora's Mask. It woulda, ya know, be a terrible shame if anything happened...'

 

Could Nintendo sue Floatplane Media? Yeah. Will they? Probably not. They might issue a cease and desist letter. Then Linus will make a video. I'm picturing the thumbnail with Linus wide-eyed on the left side where he's biting a printout of the letter to a background that makes Lisa Frank jealous while Anthony looks on from the other side in horror and the bottom has giant Impact text of "CEASE AND DESIST." And the title is like "Nintendo did WAHAHT?"

If there is a chance of Nintendo suing though don't talk about it unrehearsed on The LAN Show. No one needs to give their lawyers any off-the-cuff remarks to work with for a legal argument.

This was a video planned a number of months ago, so I’d assume they probably (I’d hope) had a lawyer on hand to make absolutely certain that Nintendo wouldn’t be able to pursue them without repercussion. 
 

As far as Sega goes, I’m finding that aside from a few blips in the road, they’re really opening up to PC gaming. Much of their Sonic library is available, cult-classic Valkyria Chronicles is a fantastic PC port that looks excellent at 4K, as of a couple months ago Project Diva even made its official PC debut (not that the arcade hardware wasn’t just PCs, but besides the point), Yakuza series, etc. 

 

Sega isn’t perfect though. For my old school Sonic needs, I haven’t found a compelling reason not to use my Sonic Mega Collection disc on my modded PS2. Forced to 480P, it scales nice and sharp even on my 4K tv. By comparison, Sonic Origins is missing some key games for me. Biggest omission for me is Sonic Spinball. If that was added in, and the price closer to $20, I’d probably buy.

Are you talking about the parts where the screens are blurred when Anthony is talking? If so then no, those aren't blurred on Floatplane.

In the video he mentioned that you shouldnt connect to nintendo. While that can be the case, the guide you were using is bad and skips a couple necessities you might need like ban protection and sigpatches. Id recommend you use this site instead. Its much easier to follow and has everything you need setup for you. Also no need for tegraexplorer since you can partition and setup your sd card with hekate, and goldleaf is quite old now and better apps like DBI as you mentioned and nxdumptool. You forgot to mention to make a nand backup before proceeding, that is very important incase anything happens to your install or you need to go back to a clean slate. Otherwise nice video.

I ran CEMU on my PC to play BOTW, fun game. Ran at 60 fps too which is nice.

Anthony mentions that Steam Deck has inferior motion controls to Switch. Anybody knows what exactly he means by that? I thought motion controls on Deck are pretty solid.

 

BTW it is possible to feed motion control data to some emulators (incl. yuzu) using SteamDeckGyroDSU.

Afaik the Joycons have like really serious motion controls. I don't know how high they rank for consumer controls, but they are way up there.

Fun tidbit, but back in 2010, the PokeWalker accessory (in Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver games) was said to be one of the most accurate pedometers on the market at the time of release. 
 

Makes me a tad nostalgic for college, when I used to carry my Pokewalker with me on campus and to classes.

Really? Considering how often I have to recalibrate Ring-Con position in Ring Fit Adventure during running or some of the minigames (especially Smack Back, which was terrible because of it) I would never assume anything like that.

 

EDIT: I tested Joycon's motion control data using BetterJoy and cemuhook's PadTest that displays the calculated orientation of the controller. Did the same for Steam Deck with SteamDeckGyroDSU + cemuhook's PadTest. I stand with what I said, sudden movements make joy-con lose its orientation and it has to be recentered. Similar to what I experience when using it in games. Doesn't happen with Steam Deck when doing similar movements.

 

Also, polling rate of the data in Steam Deck is 250Hz, compared to joy con's 200Hz.

I would really like to know why Anthony considers Steam Deck's motion controls inferior.

Maybe he compared direct motion data in Switch vs gyro mapped to the mouse or right joystick via Steam Input (Deck's controls configuration). That would be understandable as it is only 2 axes and it works only for aiming (not for gyro puzzles, like in BOTW). But that's what SteamDeckGyroDSU is for - it  feeds native motion control data into an emulator and Steam Deck + yuzu works exactly like hand-held Switch in that regard.
