It's a scam. LTT will not contact you via the youtube comment system or telegram/whatsapp/etc.

Youtube has a huge problem with scammers using bots to reply to comments claiming that everybody who commented on a video won a free prize and to contact them by telegram/whatsapp/etc. This is affecting all medium/large Youtube channels, not just LTT.

Its clearly Linus Sebastian himself, what makes you think that this is not real?

I get spam on comments I made 12 years ago when video suddenly picks up views again.

I never understand how they can't fix this, or at least try to. Linus i know has talked about it along with a lot of creators. It sucks seeing people get scammed by it, I really hope they are working on it at least

I have seen comments that perfectly replicate the logo and name with a verified checkmark and write it in a much better format, so it seems less obviously a scam. And those really trick people, I think though thats harder to do or more likely to be against the rules, because I dont see it too often

Don't tell me you think it's hard to copy and paste a logo, and use it as your own..

I'll be honest, no, not really. This scam has been a thing for a long time and even recently was heavily talked about on many channels. I just ignore them.

There is also a thread just like this started once a week lol

It would be far more helpful for LTT to put a pinned comment on every video warning people about these scams or putting out a tweet or Youtube community post or something. Very very few people seeing these scam messages on Youtube are also members on the forum. The volume of people you see posting about it on the forum is just a reflection of how widespread the problem on Youtube actually is.

@LinusTech I think putting up a pinned comment on youtube videos warning people about these scams would help a lot.
I'd be interested in a video discussing what Youtube is doing to fix this scam problem on their platform. It's easy to say they're doing absolutely nothing based on how prevalent and obvious these scam comments are, but they've got to be trying to do something, right?.... Right? Or is Youtube just laying the blame on creators telling them to moderate their own comment section? Interview with Youtube when?

They're even impersonating Mac Address now, so congratulations I guess since Mac Address is now successful enough to be the target of these scams.

We have the new more aggressive comment moderation enabled in on all our channels. It seems like a simple problem and yet youtube claims it is complicated.

I guess we could put a comment under every video, but frankly it's like putting a band aid on a severed aorta.....

A lot of problems that "seem simple" are very complicated. Especially when it comes to these massive infrastructure that has to handle billions of users every day.

That's why I asked the user above who said he doesn't understand how YouTube can't fix it to come with suggestions on how to fix it.

There are millions upon millions of comments posted every day on Youtube. Even if they have a 99,99% success rate on catching spam, there are still thousands upon thousands of spam comments that slip through their filtering. Then add to that the fact that there are thousands upon thousands of people constantly trying to get around any defense Youtube employs. As soon as they fix one, spammers find another one.

If they are overly aggressive with filtering then people get mad because it blocks too much. Even a small misstep could have massive consequences far worse than some spam comments slipping through.

My word of advice to everyone, just don't comment on Youtube or even read the comments. Even if Youtube's comment section wasn't full of scammers, have you actually had a thoughtful and proper discussion in the comment field? It's mostly just the same obvious joke repeated over and over at best. At worst it's some dumb person voicing a dumb opinion that clearly has no thought put into it.

If you absolutely want to comment on a video, do it off-site like on this forum for LTT videos, or Reddit for other videos. At least those sites has some decent search function and filtering options. On Youtube it's like shouting into a void.

Really? That one is probably a kid or someone who is new to internet. There have been some much more believable ones, even in comments. Thats just sad how bad and obvious it is.

Tell them to hire @Spotty and @Skiiwee29. They may need to pay big sums, but you get 24h of scorching bot hunting.

As I've said before: the type of person who would entertain the possibility these are legit is not the type of person who would read a stickied thread or announcement.

Just about literally the minimum effort the scammer could go to. These are not devious ex-KGB operatives

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.
