If this continues Microsoft might be forced to Bring back the screen. but instead of showing different browsers, it is a 1 click solution, to change all default browser settings

Edge is still very useful for me. It's the only browser I found that doesn't automatically downgrade Netflix video quality after a couple minutes of watching, and allows me to watch the highest quality available on Amazon Prime. It's my go-to streaming platform browser.

I thought chrome became a great browser because google used/uses sites like YT so sabotage other browser engines.

 

And you don't use edge because you hit [Enter] after using the windows search - the windows search itself is of course based on edge

 

But I agree of course: Everytime a dedicated browser window opens - it should be the default browser. Everything else: Nothing wrong with integrating the own browser into own applications

I use it anyway, because it's a free non-authoritarian country.

What a completely idiotic statement. If you want to make this an age thing then there are senior citizens I know and have worked with that would wipe the floor with kids your age when it comes to tech and computers in general. Age does NOT equal stupidity for tech, sure some old folks are really vocal and ignorant about technology but that doesn't make them generally or commonly more stupid than young or middle age people by a long shot.

For anyone curious, you CAN actually uninstall Edge. Using a tool called "Revo Uninstaller" I could remove Edge on previously Windows 10 and now Windows 11. Uninstalling Edge using Revo Uninstaller is pretty self explanatory, so here list of what you have to do:

• Download and install Revo Uninstaller (https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo-uninstaller-free-download/)
• Find/Search for "Microsoft Edge" in the list, select it and press the uninstall button at the top
• Go through the unistall wizard
• Remove Revo Uninstaller if you don't feel like you need it

If you want Edge back, just look it up in Windows search and it will install again.

I'm a fresh University grad in his mid 20s using Edge daily for my IT Tech work. Guess I'm both "computer illiterate" and a "senior citizen" then. 

 

Honestly Edge is basically Google Chrome except you replace all of the built in Google services with Microsoft ones. From a functionality standpoint, there's no real smoking gun reason to switch.

I still prefer the way pre-Chromium Edge looked. Wished they could've just changed the underlying engine while maintaining that look. But not it had to look like every other iteration of the Chromium browser.

I feel like the biggest reason to avoid edge and the reason I do and go with Firefox at least is I want to avoid Chromium, not a big fan of the style of Chrome browsers and only one I have is for trying to do web app stuff which tends to be easier on chrome than Firefox.

I think this particular piece is very biased, chrome and safari gained market share through anti-competetive behaviours as well, for example, chrome bundled quite a few freewares in its early life, adobe reader and a few other adobe softwares were installed by default, not to mention all android devices have chrome installed by default. I also can still remember Google pushing chrome hard on its search engine, whatever browser you search chrome is always the first result.

 

I'm not going to talk about safari because it is the far worst and everyone already knew.

 

I personally feel a lot of LTT contents are becoming a lot more questionable and underresearched while the channel becoming bigger and bigger. I guess every single corporation is the same, pushing whatever they want as long as profits are made, including LTT.

I uninstall these thru Microsoft own package manager, want them back replace uninstall with install, i uninstall game bar as well but requires tampering with windows registery and brings annoying issue if not done.

 

Btw YouTube is auto deleting this comment so i figure i post it here, yes i am aware you have anti spam tool enabled these days to delete comments from imposters, anyway you can uninstall Edge just fine without issue even the widgets from windows 11 which is the web experience pack bassicly without issue free's up a lot of memory.

Quite the contrary! Monitors only really got wider (like many of us) in the past years. It's actually the biggest feature of Edge. Back when Opera was an independent browser this was actually one of the main reasons for me to use it. Native support on browsers is now only found on Edge (sadly). I have to rely on Firefox with Tree Style Tab and some dodgy style config to get a "ok to use" vertical tab bar. I would love to see vertical tabs get to all browsers (without the need of addons).

Ok, to be fair I'm a tab hoarder (I easily use 30 tabs on a daily basis and more than 100 if I have to do some research) and if someone is only using four, vertical tabs don't make too much sense, but the option is great.

with current updates to windows 10, has becomed worse than windows 11 in some regard... which tells something about their plans.

As with before you got the option under select what program to run this file with, where the "more option or apps" tab is no longer in my current windows 10.

doesn't help that recently microsoft have forced updates on me... not just microsoft/windows updates... no but unprompted driver updates and third part app updates.

 

like wtf? so secure method of installing things without telling you and random other products.

I don't use any OS that has Edge so i am good to go...

 

I am not happy about the anti-competitive stuff,

In recent years enforcement of anti-trust laws has been lacking.

That's why manufacturers continue to monopolize the repair industry,

and walled gardens (iOS,PlayStation,XBOX,Switch) that don't let you open a competing store.

And of course there are many more cases.

I get why they've not done a video on it since it's not really a LTT type of topic but winget and package managers on windows is such a cool thing to talk about even if they might not want to talk about it because their niche is less so video game related or hardware enthusiast and a bit more programming. But winget, chocolatey and what not are really cool.
