Why can people leave reviews on items they haven't purchased?

Always been curious. Seems a little deceptive, but maybe it's too complicated for the store.

My initial thought would be that the platform they use doesn't support "Verified Buyer" or anything like that.

But, if it does, or if the feature can be added without too much of a headache, I strongly agree that it should be added.

On something like Best Buy or Amazon, you can buy that product on a hundred other stores, so it makes sense that people who own it, but just didn't buy it from that specific store, might leave a review.

But basically everything LTT is custom in some way or another, so you're not likely to buy it elsewhere. Therefore, in this context, verified purchases for reviews would be the most objective and fair way to do it.

It does. It displays if a review is posted by a verified purchaser.

From what I've seen looking through reviews on the store almost all of them are from verified purchases. I haven't checked all items or all reviews though, but at least when I have read the reviews it's typically been verified.

It's also possible people who left a review who don't show as verified simply didn't log in and put in their email address when leaving the review so even if someone bought it they might not show as verified.

That's a good point. They do, or at least have in the past, sold some merch items through Amazon. I think that was limited to just drink bottles and the ABCs of gaming book, not sure if they've expended. Most merch can only be bought through the store but it's possible people bought through Amazon.

But what if you got it as a gift from someone else? I still think it makes sense, even for LTT store.

Hmm? Sorry I'm not sure I understand your comment here.

What if they got it as a gift? So what? Currently, the gift recipient can still leave an unverified review, should they choose to. If they want to show up as verified, have them send their review to the gift purchaser to post it on their behalf.

Excellent - I've never actually looked at the reviews, so I wasn't sure. I was just going off of Dizmo's comments.

I guess ultimately the question comes down to: Should guest reviews be allowed?

Yeah, I'm not referring so much to reviews from unverified, but when you see things like this:

Quote

(Ignore the quote box, mobile isn't friendly, I just attached the images).

They're all over a lot of the items, albiet mostly the older listings. I only had to look at 2 pages of the 35 the underwear has to find these. There's multiple ones under the toque with review scores and it's just them asking where the pink one is. At that point it makes the entire aspect of the review score obsolete; anyone can put whatever they want, unless you take the time to go through and make sure it's a majority of verified buyers.

It just, to me at least, greatly detracts from the image of the whole customer review section.

Is there a way to report reviews? Clearly something saying "ur mom gay" violates the community standards (and yes, I know that technically applies to the LTT forums, and not the store, but still), and is offensive. It's also bad for LTT's business and reputation.

With that in mind, I would absolutely not be opposed to mandatory verified reviews (as in, no guest reviews).

To be fair I honestly didn't expect less from the vast majority of LTT's viewers.

That's a good point. A very large percentage of LTT viewers seem to be tween/young teen egdy meme-lords.

I'm one of those kids XD. To be fair, sites like Amazon lead by example. Reviews are moderated, it shows if its verified or not, guest reviews aren't aallowed to prevent spam.

Haha, yeah. I think maybe they've been paying more attention as of late and are cleaning up the old ones?

At the very least, maybe only verified people can add a rating, and the others can't. Then you could at least voice your opinion (if you got it as a gift, etc), but it wouldn't carry as much "weight."
