What Do I do after I build my computer?

Ive watched a ton of LTT's videos and can confidently build a computer but what happens after? How do I get windows? How do I tune my BiOS to my parts?

You can buy a copy of windows or burn an installation media to a disk to boot from. As for BIOS settings look up an overclocking guide specifically for you CPU and motherboard.

if you google "Download WIndows 10" (or 11, as you want) it'll take you to Microsoft's site where you can get the Windows Media Creation Tool, which will let you make a Windows 10 (or 11) boot stick to install it.

Windows can be installed in your HDD or SSD though a installation media like CD-ROM disk or Windows install USB. You can just... plug it in, follow the instruction on the screen, and install.

 

BIOS is already tuned for you. If you're new, don't think of access to BIOS to set it.

If the computer is built correctly simply using a Windows Install USB is all you need to do. You can purchase one from a known retailer like Amazon, BestBuy, Walmart, etc. Or you can use a secondary computer to make your own for free using the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.com, you will need an 8GB or larger USB Flashdrive. Any modern bios should already be set to recognize the USB installer on boot. Simply plug the USB installer in and turn the PC on, it should automatically load into the Windows 10/11 installer, you simply follow the steps to install it. If you are using used or older hardware, then you may run into snags such as UEFI or Legacy incompatibles or preset bios settings from a previous owner if the motherboard is used.

You can purchase Windows on a USB drive if you don't have access to the internet. Install that, Steam, or store of choice, and play some games. Save the BIOS worries for the system tweakers and benchmark chasers out there.

honestly i would leave the bios alone, just set XMP for your RAM and thats it.

Also definitely install windows *first*. 

there's a lot that can go wrong with bios settings so it makes no sense to mess with it before you made sure windows is installed correctly and everything works.

Don't go playing around in BIOS if you are new to PC. There are great guides and videos about BIOS if you want to learn things. But you don't really need to do anything in there. XMP and AMD equal are enabled by default. Auto-OC features are not as aggressive as they were few years ago, so no need to turn those off either.

 

As for OS, you can buy one when you buy your parts. You can select retail with USB installer if you don't have another PC for creating one yourself. Or as said, you can go for Linux. Process is similar, except for buying things.

 

Overall, don't become pirate, pay for stuff you are using.
