When movies use "old tech" as new tech.

Kinder

So I just watched Don't Look Up on Netflix (it didn't suck) but there was one thing I found interesting and funny...

There is a company in the movie launching a new phone. The phone is the same chassis as the Red Hydrogen One.

I found it funny but also it got me thinking of how many movies use old tech as new tech.

So what ones can you think of?

In Spiderman Homecoming, bad guys are messing with alien gear, and a levitating turbine with lights is just a Cooling Fan with invisible strings.

1:28 Time.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I kind of want to know what heatsink it is tho.

Possibly the D9L but with fancy TV money backing up the prop dept.

Not exactly the same thing but a dumb movie use of tech is in the 90s action movie, True Lies.

Arnie turns on a classic mac, it chimes then boots into Windows 3.1. Even back in 94/95 this triggered me.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

you will see the Saitek x52 or Thrustmaster T.16000m in basically every movie where a joystick is needed for any reason.

Sounds like the kind of stuff we do in community theatre to whip up some cheap props. Glad to know even multi-million dollar AAA movies aren’t entirely above sketchy prop hacks.

The fancy official cars in Equilibrium were 10 year old (at the time) Cadillac Sevilles

To be fair, those cars were never shown to be particularly special in any way (no advanced technology, etc). Plus with it being post apocalypse, maybe they're just manufacturing a bunch of old model Caddies because reasons? XD
