A OnePlus Nord 2 smartphone exploded inside the users’ trouser pockets... The blast caused injury to his thigh. The user shared photos of the injury along with the OnePlus Nord 2 smartphone which appears to have been completely burnt. OnePlus told TOI-Gadgets Now, "We take such incidents seriously. Our team has already reached out to the user and we are in the process of collecting the details to investigate this further." The user... Suhit Sharma, tweeted, “Never expected this from you"... "see what your product have done.”

My thoughts

This doesn't appear to be an isolated instance. A quick search on google news shows several Nord 2 devices exploding on all sorts of users (see Sources). I think it's time for OnePlus to put a pause on these devices until the matter can be looked into further, before they have a Note 7 situation on their hands. Additionally, I thought this affected me as well as I got an extremely cheap OnePlus phone for 5G testing. Thankfully, the Nord 200 5G, while similarly named, is not affected.

Dear lord this is much worse than anything that happened with the Note 7. I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see a recall within the next week or two. The worst thing about this situation is how it's gonna damage OnePlus's reputation in India, a market they've been trying to break into.

Arch is better than Ubuntu. Fight me peko.

Preteen hand I believe. They're referred to as a "boy" by the twitter account owner.

Almost looks like something punctured the phone from the front and penetrated the battery, causing a runaway reaction.

Not unlike kids to be doing crazy stuff playing outside and falling on shit.

Also why does a small kid have a brand new $500 phone?

Not $500, Indian price is close to $380 for 128GB variant.

Oh damn. It's not the flagship lineup, but still that sucks. I'm still interested to see their Pro 10 though.

Quite true, maybe an issue with screen durability then?

Yeah in this case it seems like the phone was damaged (either by accident or intentionally.) if the battery had been expanding due to overcharging, it would have pushed outward on both sides.

This is of course another one of those "but the right to repair(tm)!"

If these phones were easier to repair, the damn batteries would be rigidly packaged instead of being basically in a plastic sock.

again or is this drama news? Note of being explosive.

or just badly sourced batteries? as they do tend to explode.

I'd say the worst thing is absolutely nothing to do with OnePlus's bottom line - it's the fact that this has apparently caused serious injury to multiple people.

Thanks for reading all this by the way!

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.
