Summary

Banksy was warned that his website might be hacked when selling his first nft which he ignored. A fan got scammed out of $336,000 but when publicly started showing up and the fan posiblly knowing the id of the hacker, the hacker returned the money but the fan lost 5 grand in transactions.

nfts are stupid already, i dont know how this gets more stupid. Banksy should have listened.

Why? The technology is actually a really good thing and prevents fraud from happening. Identifying an original piece of art is extremely hard.

In the sense of identifying an original yes, but currently not in the practical sense as anyone can grab an image, create an NFT, claim to be the original and start selling it, with the extra problem of the concept of "the original" fading in the digital realm (which is partly why they were created) as a copy of an image is that same image. Depends what happened behind the scene's, we know someone tried to reach out about it, but it''s not clear why there was no response. If for example that part of things is handled by some web developer who was out with COVID there wouldn't be anyone who could respond or fix things.
