Can you build computer and do you trust yourself?

I'm curious. I'm quite clumsy and would probably manage to break the motherboard before opening it's box. It seems to be a common thing for people to build their own computers now. I just wouldn't trust yourself. I would rather pay a bit more for someone experienced to do it. What are everyone's thoughts and opinions?

Its pretty easy, and a great learning experience, I would recommend doing it, I think most people where afraid of doing their first build until they did it too.

I build my computer and also a few computers for friends. I also build a custom water loop for a friend and did hardline copper tubing on mine. Its all pretty easy if you watch a few videos. Building a normal PC is really just like Lego with fewer parts

It's really not as easy to break parts as you might think. If you go AMD, be careful about dropping the CPU on the pins. If you go Intel, be careful about dropping stuff on the socket. 

 

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

Building a computer is extremely easy i would say its easier then legos, if you have a friend that has built a comptuter before you can always ask for help if you encounter any issues.

Building a computer is mostly just assembling parts much like you would when put together furniture that comes as parts. Also the parts are a bit more durable than you would think granted you should always treat the parts with care but its not like its made of glass and will shatter at any given moment. I would say it does take a long time to do and can be a pain so it might not be for everyone but I would always suggest trying it once that way you are more familiar with how a computer works and can help if you run into problems later down the line.

Are you really asking if a lot of people here build their own PC's? 

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Not everyone is suited to build a PC, pre-built exists for those customers

And that's fine, not everyone wants to spend hours into researching, getting slightly better parts, and what not

But I'd urge then to at least ask someone that knows about PC before purchasing to avoid obvious pitfalls

1. Yes. I've built 3 and rebuilt 1, all from different eras of computing - 486, Pentium III, Phenom II, Ryzen 3000.

2. Yes, given that I've only broken one thing and it's because I pulled out the heatsink wrong.

I’ve never 100% built from scratch, but Ive:

rebuilt

Upgraded

Swapped parts

rebuilt

moded

and a whole lot more.

the only things I’ve broken was a motherboard (and a hdd if you count that, it was on purpose). I dropped my c2q and it doesn’t have pcie lanes for the 16x slot anymore.

I just had a gpu die on me, but it was 14years old, it’s sad but to be expected.

I could use some help with this!

Am486 DX2-80. I haven't gotten around to booting it yet, but it's fully assembled except I had to yank the optical and 3.5" floppy drive for my P3 box, so not really

Too bad that Nintendo didn't continue with the Wii design and that controller. Great for excising and socializing.

Building a PC is surprisingly easy if you plan, read up information, look at prior build pictures and test if you are putting the actual hardware in the right way first.

What used to be difficult was the software side of things, But installing stuff has become a lot more idiot proof over the last decade.

 

Making model kits can be far more fiddly and honestly last ones I tried I just couldn't hold the small parts. but I just finished a new PC build and well parts are bigger and easier to hold, and a bit of blutak + small screw go well on screwdrivers to hold in place.

 

I remain quite clumsy at DIY, but if you don't try, you never learn.
