Have $200, need suggestion for new hobby

Goldilock
Go to solution Solved by Grabhanem,

Model rocketry is a good middle-of-nowhere hobby if you like crafty things - inexpensive, and you can get pretty far down the rabbit hole if you want.

I finally saved $200 disposable mone and I would like to spend it on new hobby, but living middle of nowhere making things complicated.

If anyone have hobby suggestion just to pass weekend would be greatly appreciated.

FYI hobbies I used to have:

1. PCMR : My current PC is good enough for occasional gaming, also I can't play AAA games because there is no broadband internet where I live.

2. Motorcycle : Stopped due to lower back injury.

3. Mech Keyboard : Already had few mechs laying around.

4. Audiophile and Anime : Have hard time liking current releases, I kept coming back to my old library from 2000s.

5. Basketball : No other sport players around so I play alone.

People in my area usually do fishing, but I can't endure the masquito and night long waiting.

What you mean is it building rocket model like building Gundpla or actually making rocket like water rocket used in competition?

Riding a bike a a great solo activity.  But bikes are hard to come by for $200 these days.

Perhaps hiking or gardening.  I've found a surprising amount of joy recently just picking up garbage.

You could collect Ancient Coins. Maybe those made of Electrum? Oh wait... Those are to find.

$200 for a bike is actually right up the alley for local brand here. I'll test ride with friend's bike :).

Hiking might be impossible, there is no mountain in 500 KM radius here.

Little bit sad that my back can't handle manual labor for gardening (in laws already do gardening, I know I can't handle it).

Hiking doesn't require a mountain, but you might just call it walking.  It's still enjoyable if you can find a place with lots of trees and scenery to look at.

Raised garden beds!  A platform that puts the garden at a suitable height for you and your back.  There is something special about getting your hands in dirt and growing something.  You don't need to do a lot, but find small wins.

Outdoors hobbies are cool.

I'd recommend disc golf, but the tracks can't be found very widely.

I edit my posts more often than not

Reusable cardboard-and-wood rockets with off-the-shelf gunpowder motors - how easy it is to get into depends on the regulations where you live, in the US it's pretty easy as long as you don't live in the airspace of a major airport or similar.

Please note, I am NOT endorsing building your own solid-fuel rocket motors. That can get very dangerous very fast if you don't know what you're doing.

Archery is pretty cool and fun,you can buy basic bow with arrows for that budget.

Any kind of exercise is smart investment since it will be most beneficial, and you will get your money back with time, since stronger body is healthy body.

Skateboarding,roller skating.

Electric dart boards are fun aswell, and that skill can come handy of you are often in bars where they have one( you might even win some wagers).Otherwise if you have friends come over its nice too.

Books. If you are person who can read books(not saying you are stupid but people like me who cant focus enough to read a damn article let alone a full book),you can buy bunch of books for that money. From self improvent,to what ever genre you like,to life important skills,DIY,new languge, something like fixing some stuff,or coding books that can teach you coding which can become a carrer.Check books swaps, used stuff sites etc to find good deals.

A nice cooking knife(you can get one for 60-100 dollars),and a cooking books.Cooking is important thing, and it will help you to be more self dependant, have more choice(and girls love man who can cook).

Nice pair of running shoes for running duh.

Calligraphy

Drawing

Some board game

I don't anyone in the house will approve having flammable material around the house. Thanks for the suggestion.

If I feel inclined on this hobby, I think I'll stick with water rocket.

If you're into old anime could always learn Japanese. You can buy the two Genki books for like $30 each used and then pirate the workbooks and sound files, or at least you could a couple of years ago when I started learning (I recommend buying the Genki textbooks instead of pirating them because vertical reading sucks on a computer screen IMO). Then just watch that anime without the subs on, or even better with Japanese subs on if you have that option, and read manga. I will say it's a bastard of a language for a native English speaker to learn and it continually kicks my ass studying it but I slowly get more and more comfortable with it the more anime and movies I watch, the more manga I read, the more games I play in the language, etc. But I doubt I'll be very good at it before having another three years put in at least.

RC airplanes.  A group meets around here and they have all sizes of planes flying around, mostly gas powered. Some are massive and cost a fortune but you can get a beginner plane for close to $200.

What a timing, just bought a Casio for $10 last week, look a lot better in flesh.

Tho I'm still battling in my mind if I want the hassle resetting automatic watches every morning.

Prolly I'll stick with several Casio for now.

I'm currently running an Invicta Pro Diver as my first taste of mechanical watches. Most automatic these days should have enough in reserves to last for the next day undisturbed after a being worn for a full workday. But there are also some nice Quartz pieces out there like the Casio Edifice line. Citizen Eco Drive could also be a good choice if you don't want the hassle of resetting your watch every now and then. Those things are reported to last several months when fully charged.

Just did quick search in local online market. Cheapest one is still $750.

Not really that surprised though, for my country seems like only upper class people this kind of thing (only seen people use RC plane once in big festival).

I have to be honest, it probably ends up as my excuse purchasing another HDD to store more anime.

Though certainly I can consider putting hours studying to actually pass JLPT.
