viewing own profile counts as a profile view

Browser, version and OS: Chrome 76 (iirc), Android (reproduced on desktop)

 

Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened? Go to own profile, observe the profile views should that be enabled. refresh the page, the number of views should go up by one

 

 

What happened? The profile view section (if enabled) falsely counts own view

 

 

What did you expect to happen? for the view count to not go up

 

 

Link to a page where it happened, if applicable: own profile page

 

Screenshots of the issue, if applicable: can do a screen recording if needed

 

Any other relevant details: I have anonymous mode on, this was an issue before it was implemented though. 

 

 

If it's a cloudflare error, what was the ray ID from the bottom of the error page? n/a

I mean, it's not really a bug, is it? It's literally just doing what it's supposed to: you're viewing your profile, which counts as a view. It's been like that for a very long time.

It does feel weird, but it looks like it was a deliberate decision by the forum software devs (it's right next to some code that is conditional on you not viewing your own profile), and it's not something that we can very easily change ourselves because there are no suitable hook points nearby.

Better than someone making a 2nd account to do it. 

Profile views are completely meaningless. If someone is sitting there refreshing the page to increase their view count they're just wasting electricity.
