Hate seeing the camera cutout on Samsung devices? TOO BAD!!

DankDoodles

Samsung One UI 3.0 update has removed the option to hide the camera cutout & changed the UI/Theme!

There are no official announcements from Samsung about this bold movement, but many speculate that it "seem like Samsung has removed it because its users only made up a small niche." This sounds absolutely ridiculous if you think about it, I never met a person who says "I don't mind at all that a black camera dot is ruining the immersion in my Disney+ movie." or etc. Before whenever you check your notifications by swiping your finger down the top of your screen, it will cause the background to go a shade darker. After the update, when you swipe down to check your notifications, everything goes so blurry that you cannot recognize anything. If you are in a game and want to quickly check notifications, instead of your screen going a bit darker it makes your vision look like you forgot to put on your glasses. Most complaints so far appear to be from Galaxy S20 users, but now these changes are affecting other Galaxy users (S

Summary (TL;DR)

Samsung's new update caused irreversible UI/theme changes. There are no customizations to turn these new "features" off or switch to the old features.

  • Can no longer hide the camera cutout.
  • Background will turn very blurry instead of becoming a shade darker when checking notifications.
  • App icons appear to be smaller and more spaced out.
  • When going to the "App section" (Not the Home page) to check your apps, your background will now blur/mix with a light gray instead of a dark gray.
    • Black wallpapers will appear as very light gray wallpapers.
  • Very "niece" and "small" things but have a big impact on the overall user-interface experience.

"Samsung seems to have quietly done away with it. And as apparent from the comments given below, fans of the feature are clueless as to why it was removed. Many are also quite bummed about it." (1 Source)

"Actually hate installing these updates but basically now Samsung forces it on you if you don't do it yourself within a few days. So I feel trapped. Then I do it and there's always something they do that imo makes it worse, hence the removal of the "hide camera cutout" option. i mean, there was NO REASON TO DO THIS!!" (2 Source)

It's a good thing that Samsung has such a short software support cycle that I don't need to worry about this 🙃

Custom FW FTW. if they bitch about it ill show them the EU court ruling about custom FW is not a justification to void warranty then say "you either honor the warranty or ill file a complaint with the consumer protection agency"...

Imagine even accepting yourself to buy a phone with one. Won't even look any new phone that doesn't have under display camera or complete display.

Samsung's community website thing is slowly increasing in users complaining about the camera cutout toggle option being removed.

I've said this before and I'll say this again. I'm never buying a phone with a screen defect or a missing 3.5mm headphone jack. Ideally the battery is also removable but that I'm a little willing to compromise on that if the battery lasts for well over a day and doesn't deteriorate too much with age/use.

*shrug* I don't see a huge problem with this, and they would know best of all what users are actually using on their devices. Even if we see hundreds of people that are dissatisfied with them removing the option, that's a very, very very minuscule portion of the user base. I don't know why you seem surprised that they changed the UI/Theme, that's pretty normal with new revisions of any skin. On top of this, a lot of the things you've listed can be changed by simply moving to a different launcher.

I think that's fine, as long as users are fine with them flashing the OEM firmware back on should you have an issue they need to check (something like a camera not functioning properly).

Honestly I don't care about the notch on my phone. I watch Youtube and Disney plus, but it doesn't seem to get in the way.

Custom FW's usually come with TWRP (a custom recovery) so users can just simply backup the whole system (except the internal storage) the reflash the recovery and restore the backup once they got back the phone.
