Because, as part of the forum we have to ensure that the rules are followed in blogs as well as everywhere else, and allowing people to delete comments interferes with that. If you would like a comment to be deleted, you can report it and a moderator can delete it for you. Note however that we are unable to do that with private blogs, which I believe is the case for yours, and that is part of the reason that they are turned off for all new blogs.

Makes no sense to me.

I get not deleting other people's posts, but not being able to delete your own sounds silly.

I don't understand what you're asking here.

You can hide them, but that is distinct from deleting (because it remains accessible to mods). Blogs don't currently support allowing members to hide things, and this is the first time it has been requested.

So why not just allow for 'deleting' replies/posts such as that only mods can see it. Or have some kind of cache where deleted posts/replies are kept and then automatically deleted after a period of time e.g. 30 days. It might be too much to ask but it's definitely not a bad idea.

It's not supported by blogs by default, and this is the only time that this has been requested so there doesn't appear to be much demand for it compared to other features that we could add. I am not saying that we won't add it, but adding features that will only be used by a couple of people, when there is a perfectly adequate alternative (reporting) is not high on our priority list.
