EVE Project V revealed at long last

GhostRoadieBL

EVE Project V has been in the works for a long time, and it looks like they have been using the time very well. It's a Tablet/Laptop with a Wacom pen detachable keyboard and Corning glass screen cover. Similar to the Dell XPS style, a "FHD+" and "4k UHD+" 16:10 screen in 13.4"  for amazing visuals, prioritizing higher contrast, brightness and HDR support so the screens are expected to be colour accurate and bright enough for outdoor users.

0bb7cea8874c94c3596542a72421203a08169915_2_690x431.png.205f308ed4b8c5d3ee1179115673a7e0.png

For ports they showed off 3x USB-Cs, 2 of which have thunderbolt with charging, the other has just USB support (no word on charging through that port), combo audio jack for headphone/mic, microSD/Sim card tray for expansion and mobile connectivity perfect for users on the go.

Quote

When we developed the first V back in 2016, USB Type-A ports were still the standard across tablets and laptops, and there were even some heated discussions in our community about the usefulness of Type-C.

Their truly impressive feat is fitting quad speakers with a pair of front facing speakers which should provide clear audio compared to down firing laptops, and a pair of "subs" with dedicated acoustic chambers to extend the frequencies below the average laptop.

Quotes

Quote

One major change we made to the speakers in our new V, is that they are now front-facing. The sound comes out of the device straight at the user, instead of being shot out of the top, away from you.

Something we haven’t mentioned yet, is that we’re doubling down on improving sound quality by adding two dedicated speakers for lower frequencies in the bottom half of the device. We’re also working with our speaker supplier to ensure we dedicate enough space to acoustic chambers, and are looking into third-party specialists to help us tune the sound, so that we get it right straight out of the box.

My thoughts

I am so excited for this to come out, Tiger Lake CPU, possibly amazing speakers, colour accurate screen with a priority for brightness and contrast. These all lend to the thought of this to be the game changer laptop the industry needs to compete with XPS and MacBook lines but (hopefully) priced properly for the consumer. Maybe other companies will take note and see how Eve does things with constant public input.

so 11th gen intel as tigerlake. 11th gen U processors are out but desktops aren’t.  Desktop is still 10series.

Part of the issue is intel set these names up years in advance befor it started to have all its troubles. 11th gen never fully released because they couldn’t make the desktop chips work. Only the low power stuff.

Ok but you replied specifically to a mobile comment so desktop isn't relevant, this is also a mobile device. Tiger lake is out and is not after rocket lake, full stop. Desktop of each, maybe.

Spoiler

Edit: I should also point out there's not really a desktop Tiger Lake. Tiger Lake H is a laptop chip they might sell in a desktop package. No K sku for sure. Rocket Lake is a true desktop backport of 10nm Willow Cove desktop cores. Tiger Lake is mobile Willow Cove.

Yeah, they made a previous device like it. This is the successor to that device.

I would like my money they took from me and never gave me a product.

This wasn't a kickstarter btw, this was a preorder on their website. Lots of shenanigans from this company (even read their Spectrum monitor is having very similar problems). I would be very very careful about giving this company your money.

If it's anything like the last Eve, then oh boy...

Not shipping pre-ordered (not Kickstarter backed) products to your customer is a way to completely erode all trust in a brand. I never bought one of these, because I'm way too big of a MS fanboy to do that, but I've heard horror stories about this. And the funniest part is that the item took so long to ship that the Surface Pro passed it in performance, thanks to using 8th-Gen chips.

Definitely not for me, if you must though, buy it with a credit card and if they start to push back dates cancel your order ASAP.

Mostly because the rate that AMD laptops are sold compared to their performance gains (and power efficiency) is very low. I'd rather promote the better overall product, and as of today that's the Ryzen 4000 mobile CPUs rather than Tiger Lake.

Ryzen 4000 beats tiger lake?  Wasn’t clear on that one.   I thought the tigerlakeU CPUs were “released” but hadn’t really been tested yet.  If those were the ones hardwareUnboxed were doing their ryzen4000 reviews against then there’s a problem.  The review shows comparison to 10xxx CPUs.

Apparently intel only released 4/8 variants of tigerlake for laptops so far, but there is a claim that 8/16 chips will be coming.  One engineering sample was tested on the 7th of this month by PCworld or something. Afaik no 5000series laptop APUs (vs desktop CPUs) have been announced at all.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Assuming you can even get an AMD laptop. They’re as hard to find in stock as a 3080 right now - lots of manufacturers (eg HP) have stopped listing them on their sites.

Yeah, that's what has me kinda bored with Intel laptops. Manufacturers should be getting more AMD laptops out there because they're a better value proposition CPU wise (and I respect AMD more right now because they're trying very hard to innovate / improve their architecture whereas Intel is stuck on Skylake++++++).

The manufacturers aren't at fault here, it's AMD that's unable to supply the chips fast enough to meet the demand. Previously released laptops are being pulled because they've got 4 week long waiting lists.
