Will my 850w be enought for a 3090 STRIX?

UsernamePassword

Hi!

Here is my current build; (Removed GPU)

I was thinking of getting a 3090 STRIX from Asus,

Will a 850w be enough for this build or do I need to upgrade?

Thanks!

Should be plenty considering that they recommended that much and with the 2080 TIs they recommended 650 Watt but you could run it off 450 watt.

Yes, it'll be plenty.

Do note that the Strix 3090 will require three 8-pin connectors, so make sure you've got enough available if you're using a custom cable kit or whatever (by default the PX comes with 3 or 4 8+6-pin cables iirc).

I recommend you go with the founders edition because the adapter for the 12 pin is included.

Thanking you,

3090 Strix does not need any adapters.

Bumping this now when more information has come out

In Linus' review on the 3090 I believe he said that they saw the card cap out the 850W PSU in many instances

Thats related to the specific unit they were using. Ive confirmed this with Anthony.

The Seasonic Prime they are using is fairly transiense sensetive, hence it tripping. Ampere is worse than Vega in terms of transiense it seems.

Id look at a different PSU, given the history of seasonic focus units and transiense. Untill its confirmed to be fine, id look at something else.

This is probably a better pickup anyways. Just read the manual for which PCIe connectors to use

If I would upgrade because my 850w platinum was too weak I would buy a higher W not the same if that was the reason?

GN has been using the EVGA T2 1600W for the testing 3080 and 3090 and it's been doing fine... MAX OC, LN2 etc.

So I wouldn't see an issue using an EVGA T2 or one of the Corsair HX or HXI 850W + units.

The Corsair HXI 1000W is in stock now at Corsair..

Wattage isnt why the old focus and current Prime trips.

Its because they are transient sensetive.

You can run ampere on a 650w PSU, just make sure the PSU isnt transient sensetive.
