I'm going to have to take my 5700 xt offline after it is done its WU, something was/is making a awful noise that never used to exist, I'm sure it is from a capacitor. Right now it sounds like coil whine from the GPU as it is the only one running, but when paused I hear a endless looping buzz. I'll trouble shoot it when I get time but not right now, the gpu task is another 3 hours, there's potentially nothing wrong, but it didn't sound right about a hour ago, and no the water isn't leaking, loop's works fine (tested).

 

It also doesn't make the noise in the bios.

Is there something wrong with the points mechanism?

My logs say that work is being uploaded but the EOC forum... doesn't.

It is quite normal for points to go missing for a while, sometime even for days, but they will turn up sooner or later.

It is coil whine almost 100%. If it is not, check your pump, it might be making the noise. But I am 99% sure that it is coil whine. Either from PSU, Mobo or GPU. You could try to troubleshoot each by replacing them 1by1. I've had this problem since I made my PC back in 2017. I changed like 5-6 GPUs since then and all had coil whine, which means it's not them, rather it's PSU or Mobo. But since I am too lazy to do cable management again, I will not troubleshoot it further. But I will surely remember not to buy Corsair PSU nor Gigabyte Mobo again, even though it's probably bad luck that I got one of those.

There is nothing wrong with your logs or points mechanism, do not worry about it too much. Check it once or twice a day on EOC and check your F@H Advanced Control whenever you want to see if everything is going smoothly.

 

EOC updates only ever 3 hours. You cannot expect the points to show up whenever you reload. 

 

If your client says that they updated, they updated, and you shouldn't worry from that point. The only problem that can happen on client (your) side is if upload or download gets stuck. Otherwise, there is nothing you can do. Servers go as fast as servers can go.

If you are constantly folding then there is no need to check EOC every three hours. Just make sure your PCs are stable and everything else will be all right.

 

As you can see in your logs, there are multiple lines similar to this one:

19:02:18:WU01:FS00:Server responded WORK_ACK (400)
19:02:18:WU01:FS00:Final credit estimate, 192551.00 points

That means that server has got your WU and you will be awarded the points. From that point onward, you shouldn't think about it too much.

Points will be put under your username in next few updates (usually the first one, but sometimes servers get glitchy and do not report it correctly to F@H website or EOC experiences a bug). However, there was never a case where someone submitted a WU but never got points. There were some rare cases where QRB wasn't calculated correctly with newer WUs, but that was usually fixed in matter of days/weeks. And as I already said multiple times, do not worry about it. If your GPUs were 100% folding during those 3 hours, you will get your points.

So the WU finished about 30 minutes ago, this is what I did:

I know it's not the pump, because I used the 24 pin test piece that comes with it.
Unplugged the 4 pin to CPU didn't fix it, wasn't expecting it too, it's useless anyways and nearly impossible to put back.

Unplugged the GPU throwing in my hilariously old GT210 (see Linus they still have a purpose ) so I'm not trying to work on a computer blindly (team viewer swaps the password so need something), I want to put the CPU under load just to make sure it doesn't return, if it does then I know. Only because I can hear a mild hum in the same general spot. It's around the M.2/GPU area below the CPU, the mild hum could be caused by the power draw of either the M.2 or GT210 assuming it is the board.

 

I'm stuck waiting 15 more minutes for F@H to initialize and download a CPU WU which will take about a hour for me to complete, so by 8PM my time I'll know 100% (likely) what's causing the large amount of noise on top of the gpu.

This is my motherboard in question, also can motherboards have coil whine loud enough to irritate people and be heard over 6 ft away? I know old tech could, but this would be the first for modern stuff.

My 1070 has a horrid coil whine as well mostly in games like GTA V, so does my PSU at times, but considering the 5700 XT wasn't that bad (I heard whine under load) it startled me when I was able to still hear it on idle and I rather be safe and check then wake up one day w/o a computer, plus if it turns out to be whine then I now know so I don't panic in the future, and maybe duck tape a pillow to the glass to help lower the noise.

 

Edit: I actually never had a issue with a GIgabyte board, this one is MSI, tho I do agree with corsair esp the green labels.

 

Edit2: Thanks to the GT210 F@H won't let me test, instead I used FurMarks CPU burner instead, no extra noise. The noise is still existent in the area, so I'm assuming whine on the board. I'll restore everything tomorrow thanks to DST I'm tired... The noise reminds me of the old data center noises in movies with the beeps etc.

 

Edit #3: Now F@H finds something for the CPU... I have no way of finishing it tho... I'm going to try restarting the client hopefully that fixes that.

well i think i have decided i will see if i can locate a 3070 EVGA Trifan card as my fulltime folder is team green and upon restling with my thoughts FLEXO will go team green too and will likely sell the RX580...may possibly upgrade to 2x3070s by next event(or 3070TI if they relese such a monster)...but the 2nd one will be added ONLY if i get another 1200+ USD check from govt...any thoughts?

I'm interested in seeing if either parties would release anymore money regardless the outcome in a few days, currently what I know is Trump has put a weird wall up right now from that happening at least that's my understanding.(some sort of conflict or something)

 

Beyond that imo I would hold out on the second because that check could be the last one till further notice and might need the money elsewhere, unless unlike the Canadian Gov they give it to everyone working or not, then by all means if you're working still get the 2nd, more power.

 

For the RX580 if you don't need to sell it you can use it for extra points unless you can still sell it for a good price.

for the 580 I would keep till Flexo Becomes What bender was eg 2x2060s, and I understand what going on with stimulus but I will keep most of it for other stuff but also feel the need to help with research hence why I want to upgrade.  I have lost a few family members to cancer (aunts and uncles) and want to do my part to make the world a better place and think that is just as important...

A friend brought up the stimulus a few weeks ago so I quickly looked it up. I do agree with you on the importance of helping out, I would be one of those people running around trying to grab every 3070 possible or buying used cards if I didn't have a massive expense at the beginning of this pandemic draining 80% of my savings. I too have lost a few to cancer threw out the years as well.
