Real pigowl

I’m going to be building a new pc, I’ve been wondering if there is going to be a 3060 super. Or should I just get the 2060 super. I really don’t know. Anyways thanks

What's your budget for the whole system, and what will you be using it for?

Generally, with a new GPU lineup launch we only get the xx70, xx80 and maybe xx80Ti models, with the more mid-range xx60 and other lower-end models coming in at a later date. So even if you were to wait a couple more months for Ampere, for a 3060 you'll probably be waiting a little longer.

I'd say the super cards are still ways away, even if they will be released. High end non-super and non-ti cards first, excluding xx80 ti

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

If they release a 3060 Super, my assumption would be it follows the same pattern as the current generation. Meaning you get a 3060 "now" and a 3060S half a year or more later. But as others have said, there's no way to know for sure. The (rumored) 3060 isn't even out yet.

Well no one knows for sure. Lower end RTX 3000 cards may be released after the higher end cards like the did with RTX 2000. RTX 3060 Super may release in December 2020 or Q1 2021 (January or February) referring to what NVIDIA did with the RTX 2000 line up.

I will say it is worth the wait. Ryzen 4000 is coming soon anyways. One or two months time.

Hopefully not. The whole Super release was a massive marketing fuck up as it created heaps of confusion.

couldnt agree more, such a cluster

Between the confusion, the silly over-complication of the SKUs, and the feeling of...Oh I paid the exact same price for a 2070 4 months ago and now the super costs that much for a free performance boost, it wasnt a great look.

In an ideal world, they would launch the best product from day 1 and then just price adjust.  Would instill more confidence in buying a 3060 3070 etc if you weren't thinking...but what if they launch a super in a couple months for the same price with 15% better performance?!

El Zoido:  9900k + RTX 4090 / 32 gb 3600mHz RAM / z390 Aorus Master

The Box:  3900x + RTX 3080 /  32 gb 3000mHz RAM / B550 MSI mortar

Considering RDNA2's likely to launch at around the same time as Ampere, I would at least hope that this doesn't happen again, since the Navi launch was definitely one of the larger reasons for the Super lineup.

Can't have a 400$ AMD card beating our 500$ *70 class one. Gotta get SUPER serious about our cards /s

To be fair, at least it did make AMD drop the prices on the 5700 series before they even launched, so in the end that was still a win for those looking to upgrade at the time.

The 3060 series display card is anticipated to be released later than the 3080/70 series, about January maybe? For the super series it will probably be longer like the 2060 super does.

So it takes at least 5 months for you to wait for the new mid range series of display card. If you need it now and the price is acceptable just buy it, it's still long way to go.

Short answer: maybe?

Longer answer: I think it depends on when Big Navi shows up and how good it is. If AMD releases an intermediate contender that relies more on price-to-performance than raw blistering speed, NVIDIA would be wise to release a Super or Ti competitor for each targeted card. If AMD doesn't release an intermediate card, there's no reason for NVIDIA to add more layers to its product stack.
