Russia’s move to seize control of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula on Saturday led Ukraine to call up its military reserves on Sunday and warn Moscow against further incursions as Western powers scrambled to find a response to the crisis.

 

I'm just gonna call it now: Ukraine and Russia are going to war. Quite frankly, Ukraine doesn't stand a chance if they fight on their own. They'll probably start to ask for help from their allies, and if their allies accept, then that means that well, they're going to war with Russia as well.

 

This is whole situation isn't going to end well, and will probably start another long and brutal war.

This won't come to war, and it definitely wouldn't be a long one. The Ukraine doesn't have the military might to go up against Russia.
It'd likely last maybe a week and they'd concede.

Outside pressures would, at the very least, simply let the Russian part of the Ukraine break away from the other half.

Yes, but that doesn't mean they have a large military.

They make transport planes, optics, a couple tanks and APC's, handguns, and missiles.

Missiles are useless without a launcher, and they don't manufacture enough tanks to be considered a threat.

Missiles are useless without a launcher, and they don't manufacture enough tanks to be considered a threat.

It doesn't mean that of course and it's not comparable to what Russia have. But they have strong enough to fight back for a while.

Russia has an active force of 766,000 (army) troops. The Ukraine has 90,000. An attack launched by Ukraine against Russian Federation troops would bring the full might of Russia in.

They'd be crushed extremely fast.

i don't think they will go to war due to the fact that Russia is a big enough power house compared to Ukraine, plus the civil unrest that already exists there

That's a dumb comparison. There won't be total war Russia-Ukraine. If Russia would invade in that scale I don't think world would tolerate that. There's like 20k Russian forces in Crimea which is enough for securing the Crimea region. Currently it's the same scenario what was in Georgia - the scale is not big enough for world to react, it's just shaking finger.

So basically you are saying it is ok to invade independent country and because their military strength is not comparable they should just surrender. I'm shocked.

That's exactly what I'm saying though. They don't need to invade on a full scale invasion because they're that much larger.

It's a numbers game, like most thing in life. The cabinet, knowing how large the Russian Federation is, would likely not approve a military conflict because they know they'd be crushed.
