looking for affordable super-tower

don't really care too much about what it looks like or any particular features (half decent airflow is a must however) as long as it has 8+ expansion slots and isn't too much more than 100 US i don't really care too much.




the reason i'm looking for this is to be able to use my x58 sabertooth more optimally



Edit: so far i have found these 2, more suggestions welcome, but help choosing between the two is also passable

for a folding rig, the slot spacing is questionable on the sabertooth, so i need more slots to better use it

Edit: also, it doesn't really make sense to get rid of a motherboard from a complete system, that i use all the time

Get a better airflow case.

thank you, but you missed the critical criteria of needing 8 or more expansion slots, all of the cases you listed have 7.

The F31 suppressor does a good job of suppressing airflow lol (big shock I know), better if you leave the front door open though. I owned that case in the past. ironically the Phanteks Pro M was the case I upgraded to at the time, MUCH better airflow.

looks good, i'll probably go for that, but i'm first going to see if i can save a buck and trade my friend for a case ( i believe he may have the DIYPC case)

Fair enough! But yeah the Pro M is solid, I liked it a lot, only sold it because it no longer met my needs and I wanted to downsize to a smaller mid-tower, ended up with the Meshify C.

yup! currently my sabertooth is stuck inside a define C, and my other folding rig inside a Pure Base 500DX.

Um. Folding@home? Also, can't really justify for a ~1000 CPU motherboard combo, when most of what I do benefits from single core performance, nor can I afford something like that...  One does not simply "threadripper"

Does it not occur to you that people might, very possibly, have their own reasons for using the hardware they use, that you're not privy to?

A little late on this one, but have you considered Corsair's 750D and Air 540? They're a little older now but are still solid, and the Air 540 is still to this day among the best cases when it comes to airflow.

i'd love to have one of those older super towers, unfortunately they seem to all be closer to 130-160 after shipping.

8 PCI-E slots for under $100?

 

The Enthoo Pro or Enthoo Pro TG (as @TheDailyProcrastinator mentioned) would probably serve you pretty well. The Pro TG crosses the gap between "old super tower" and "New TG+PSU shroud"

 

Rosewill also has the Rise Glow which looks to be more compact than the Pro TG in volume, seems like a lot of people have used these for server boards with Quad CPU sockets which is pretty cool, though at $109 price (at time of writing) it's not great value due to what I'd call visually poor construction quality for the price (especially compared to what you can get now at $100). Pre-Covid sale prices were $70-$80 which I think is fair given the construction quality and potential airflow of the case, and $50 Black Friday 2019 price was actually very good.

 

The Skyline 06 isnt worth the asking price IMO, and the View 31 would be thermally outclassed by the Pro TG and Rise Glow's mesh fronts for F@H applications (24/7 continuous operation)
