Is it weird to use console controllers for PC games?

I don’t have a PS4 or Xbox but I have controllers for both and I’m wondering if using a console controller via Bluetooth to play games on my PC is common?

 

Does anyone else do this sometimes or am I a rare exception?

I would say really depends on the game. I like controllers for casual racing games and fps. Sometimes I'll use it on an rpg if it's supported.

Kinda. There are some games that is better with a console controller. Prime example. Dark souls and games similar to it. (The surge, sekiro, nioh ect) .

There's some games that suck ass to play with a controller (like a lot of FPSes like CS:GO and TF2) as keyboard and mouse offers better precision in those scenarios, while there's some that are far superior to play with a controller (racing games, especially) because their analog controls offer better control of how you'd want to steer or accelerate.

Lol I actually use my PS4 controller for Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro. But also for Resident Evil and Dead By Daylight.

 

I ordered a limited edition Cyber Punk Xbox One controller (in pic below) before they sold out and I’m hoping to use that in some games too since more games have controller layouts for Xbox controllers than PS4.

What about games like Resident Evil 3 remake? I’ve been using a PS4 controller for that game and it seems a lot easier. With Dead by Daylight I feel like I can loop killers easier with a controller than a keyboard & mouse.

I have an Xbox 1 controller for my PC because some games are designed just for a controller. I don't recommend playing via Bluetooth if you can use a USB cable though. There's some latency.

I used to exclusively play with a controller on PC, now the only game that I play with a controller is any racing game because they kinda suck on kb/m. But realistically its all preference on whether or not you wanna use a controller or not.

Sadly I don’t have a cable long enough to play with a wired connection.

 

But I don’t really notice any lag either. I have a pretty high quality, high performance, MEG z390 ACE motherboard and I think maybe that’s why. I bet with lower end motherboards the latency would be more noticeable.

I know it’s preference but I was just wondering if it’s common to use a controller on PC or if it’s extremely rare to see gamers using a controller on a PC game.

I have a couple games that just works better (or needs) a controller of some sort.

Games that immediately come to mind, at least, that I own:

• Street Fighter 4 / 5
• Mortal Kombat series

Goo00oood luck trying to do anything aside from basic punch/kick with a keyboard.

Logitech controller + Xbox One controller for me.

Yeah its pretty common, my wife prefers using it for COD, Siege, Overwatch and even Red Dead 2. My brother-in-law uses one for every game he has.

Its common.

 

Some games just play well with a controller.

 

I bought an Xbox controller for the PC years back for use with certain game types. Racing, Side scrollers, 3D platformers, fighting, etc.

I played Ori and the will of the wisps recently with it for example.

 

Many games types can be played better with a controller but there are also some that are just bad. FPS, RTS, ARPG/dungeon crawlers/ MOBAs, and MMORPGs for example are best with a keyboard and mouse.

It's not the motherboard, it's just how bluetooth works.  When you use a controller on an X1 or PS4, it doesn't use bluetooth because it sucks.  It uses a 2.4GHz connection, like WiFi.  It's just there for Windows compatibility.

Oh really? Hmm IDK I’m using it now and I don’t notice any sort of lag at all. The moment I hit a button there is an action immediately without any delay.

 

Maybe it’s just some people with that issue?

I use my ps3 controller for most of my pc gaming.  I tried to play doom 2016 with mouse and keyboard and I really suck at it.  the mouse part for aiming is awesome but moving with the keyboard is really too difficult for me ... so I decided to stick with the controller.  the only game I don't play with controller are diablo/baldur's gate kind of games.  I haven't played racing games since need for speed underground 2 on pc so it's been a long time.

Use mine for most things that aren’t Overwatch, Doom or borderlands. CoD I would but I play Zombies too much and it’s easier to play 3 hours straight with a controller vs keyboard. Would recommend using the Xbone controller with the dongle btw it’s a lot better than bluetooth

I use a real Playstation 2 controller with PS2 to USB adapter in emulation and also some games like Tekken 7.
